ARG. PSP. ARG. Sony. ARG. Waiting.

So firmware version 3.0 is now available via network update. This includes the much-anticipated PS1 emulator.

But of course, in order to USE that PS1 emulator, you need to own a PS3 (60GB version), because the only way to get the games for it is to go to the playstation store on your PS3, while the PSP is communicating with it.

    Thus the "ARG".

Apparently, there are no PS1 games in the playstation store right now. double "ARG".

I hope that sony actually lets people purchase the PS1 games on their PC and send them to the PSP via memory stick or USB, or hell, the PSP's own internet browser! As horrible as the PSP has been doing lately, with developers losing faith and just about ready to jump ship, it'd be nice to throw a bone to those of us who are trying their best to support this system, rather than insisting we buy a PS3.

The PSP is a great ****ing system. the PS1 emulator is a killer addition to it, but not if you have to rely on another 600 dollar piece of hardware to use it. The PSP needs to be allowed to stand on it's own, make things as streamlined as possible. Let it do as many awesome things on it's own as possible. What they're doing now is only going to hold the system back even more.

I know its entirely possible that they'll let you do this in the future. but they havent announced any intention of doing it yet, and I'm sick of waiting. Sony is all about making people wait these days. waiting through dry spells on the PSP that last for months. waiting for PSP firmware releases only to find out that you cant use a damn thing that they added because you don't have another freakishly expensive piece of sony hardware. waiting the months its going to take for them to manufacture enough PS3s to fill the pre-orders and give people a chance of grabbing one off a store shelf. Waiting for the promised registration via PC for the Playstation Network. Hell, damn near everyone who has reviewed the PS3 has said that you're not buying a PS3 for what it can do, but for what it will do. WHO THE HELL WANTS TO WAIT?

I want to like you sony, I want to support your systems. I'm just sick of you insisting I wait to do so.

I agree completely. I don't want to have to buy a PS3 to use this feature on my otherwise dust-collecting PSP.

So what are they doing about the L and R2 buttons? I haven't really read up on it much.

no clue. as you said, it's missing L2 and R2, but its also missing a second analog stick, and the L3 and R3 buttons (were those even used in any PS1 games?)

Well if you remember, the original controller didn't even have the analog sticks.

I didn't even know the PS1 controller even had L3 and R3. You kinda figure, though, there has to be at least one game that made use of it.

There were games that required use of both sticks, though.

true, but most of the good games came out after the analog sticks were added.

After God of War 2, I'm not sure if there's any direct way I'll be supporting Sony in the near future...

..oh, and Metal Gear Portable Ops of course.

I think Ape Escape used the L3 and R3 buttons.

Hey there, Sony turns to extortion.

Ape Escape required the analog sticks (L3, R3).

You will be able to download PS1 games directly to the PSP. At least PSM said so to someone who wrote in with that question. I guess Sony just hasn't gotten on the ball in a timely manner. How unlike them.

                        http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155399

For all the excitement surrounding the introduction of PSP into the handheld market, Sony's struggled to contain the Nintendo DS beast in the face of its non-traditional games like Nintendogs and Brain Age. The PSP's certainly done alright for itself -- the amount of quality games prove it -- but from a financial perspective, it certainly could be doing better, and UK studio Climax is inclined to agree.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, the studio behind the recently released ATV Offroad Fury Pro on PSP, worries about the platform's prospects. "In terms of sales of the actual units, it's not doing so great," said Climax CEO Karl Jeffery. "The DS is going gangbusters, the sales volumes are going up exponentially. But the PSP worrys us, because we're sitting here thinking about what Sony is going to do to get the platform back on track and we're not hearing much from them."

There have been rumors of a modified or upgraded PSP coming sometime in 2007, but that's been around ever since Nintendo redesigned Nintendo DS. Ultimately, Jeffery believes the current market may fuel abandonment."&it's very disappointing at the moment when you look at the installed base and the sales of the games that are out there; it's not a compelling prospect for many publishers."

That's unfortunate for publishers, but if "lagging" PSP sales compared to Nintendo DS means we're still seeing releases like Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops -- I'm game.
I can easily see Sony abandoning PSP. Thing's going nowhere after MGS:PO. What did they do to bolster interest in the system this fall shopping season?

PACK LORDS OF DOGTOWN WITH IT.

                        WTF IS THAT ********.

A redesign and a price drop would guarantee my purchase of it. Because dammit, THE TRAGEDY OF BIG BOSS demands my immediate attention.

I believe nothing until it happens. too many companies have said they'd do something, and then never done it.

Fun fact: I'm getting a new PSP next year to replace my current one. What will happen to it? I'm gonna give it away to a pavilion member.

sure is. it's got some cosmetic problems (faceplate is loose on the left side, 2 screws are stripped, and one is missing, all from me trying to open it up recently to get a tiny bit of dust out of the screen), but it works just fine and looks damn good too. the loose faceplate can be fixed with some glue.

It's been opened, so it's warranty is gone. thus, I cannot sell it. I got it for free, so I wouldnt feel right selling it regardless. once I get the new one, I'm just gonna have people tell me why they'd want it, and I'll pick someone based on that.
