    redneck's trip to the primus

as many of you on this fine forum know, a good band is called primus. and because they are a good band i was excited to find out they were doing a show in toronto!!!!! ebcause they almost never tour in canada it was a pleasant surprise and I went to go see it

i didn't bring a camera or anything so tehre are no pictures but the memories will last a lifetime. they played at this place in toronto called the kool haus which is a really nice little venue. there was a good mix of stoners and metalheads in the audience and just about everyone was partaking in some fatties until the whole place was hotboxed out. i was probably the youngest kid there so that was cool

after way too long of a setup and some opening band, primus finally came onto the stage. les claypool was a commanding presence in his silly hat and large glasses. they opened with "those damn blue-collar tweekers" which is basically my favorite primus song so i got all riled up!! i may be young but i am pretty big (not fat) so i was able to hold my own in the moshpit which meant i was like 4 feet from the stage the whole time. i was also right in front of les claypool and for a while we were staring right at each other and he was probably thinking "what is that faggot kid doing in the mosh pit"

he was just as good at playing bass in real life even though he didnt bust out too many solos i was pretty impressed. tim alexander is basically my favorite drummer but he was kinda off for some reason

songs they didnt play: jerry was a racecar driver, tommy the cat, john the fisherman. tommy the cat and jerry etc are obvious choices to play but i guess they get sick of playing them all the time and wanted to give a fresh new take

uhhh some guys threw a bottle at les claypool and he stopped the song and told them that they have a small penis

i bought a primus shirt it smells like the concert

all in all i had a good time this is now the official primus thread (primus sucks)

is someone constantly attacking redneck whenever he tries to type? its the only explanation I can think of for his horrible spelling lately.

Post concert typings are usually forgivable.

I am so glad you finally got to see them. Les and the guys are a force to be reckoned with. But there is no excuse for jerkwads throwing bottles at Les, even if Primus sucks. I never understand why people pay to see a show and then throw bottles or other stuff at the performer.

I missed out on their latest show, but my friend went and he got a live copy of it. I can pretend I'm one of the screaming fools in the audience.

Did they play "welcome to this world?" They never ****ing play that for me. :P

yeah i don't know who would spend that much money just to ruin a song by throwing bottles (it was "here come the bastards" too, ) but overall it was a great time.

and no, they didn't play welcome to this world, so there you go, maybe they dont like it

Ohhhhh... I would've been very ****** if they had interrupted that tune, since it's one of my favorites.

The only thing that was thrown at Les at the 2004 show was a nice J, which was tossed by my friend. It landed right in front of Les. Eventually he picked it up and threw it back into the crowd. It's the thought that counts, I guess. :P

sounds like you had a nice crowd.. ours had a lot of idiots who seemed like they were just in it to mess people up. they were moshing and fighting each other during the ****in jam solos in "american life". i mean i was in the mosh pit when the songs get crazy but there are limits, those guys didnt even seem like they liked primus.

also a guy threw a bottle at tim alexander and it smacked his cymbal during "sgt. baker" and he looked like he was going to stop playing. luckily he kept going or else i wouldve had to kick that guys ass for throwing it

Re: redneck's trip to the primus

Ugh, that sucks. The Tex-ass crowds at the shows I've seen were certainly rowdy, but nobody was going completely apeshit in the pit or causing real trouble. I can't believe they would throw bottles, that's really ****ing stupid and dangerous.

I've seen bands stop playing because of thrown objects and lame crowds. I seem to recall that one of the opening acts for White Zombie was "Babes in Toyland," and they got angry when someone in the pit ripped this girl's top off while she was crowd surfing. They stopped playing, pointed out the guy that did it, told the crowd to "kick that guy's ass," and then apologized and left the stage.

I hate people that ruin the show for others. If they ****ing paid money to see these people, they could at least show some damn respect for their talent. If they stop playing then what's the point of being there? If you want to get drunk and act like an ass there are a lot of other places to do that. I do love it when those same bastards get tossed out of the show. They should be fined for assault, too.

Re: redneck's trip to the primus

I got dragged to a Primus concert once semi-against my will (I did not really want to go, but my friends convinced me that as we had not seen a concert together in a while that we all should go to see Primus, so I went). It was in the Aragon "Brawlroom" (really the Ballroom) in Chicago, and I was not the biggest guy at the time, and pretty much was hanging on to this metal link fence next to the sound and light techs for the entire show because the entire floor was a moshpit. I was at least halfway back, and people kept slamming in to me throughout the entire show. Now, I'm not above moshing, but I only mosh to bands I like. I even started my own one-person mosh pit at a Bjork show when Aphex Twin opened and played Digeridoo. I just did not want my body assaulted for an hour or more at a constant rate. Needless to say, I still hold this as one of the worst (if the THE worst) concert I'd ever been to. And believe me, I've been to a lot-I lost count, but it's probably somewhere in the range of 250-275. So there's my Primus story.

sounds to me like youre a wuss who moshes during shows that aren't for mosh pits but you get scared when a real one starts. primus played a great live set when i was there but you probably didn't even pay attention if you spent the whole time clinging for dear life on a fence like a doofus. better stick to bjork!

The most intense mosh pit I've been in was when I had 6th row tickets for Ministry. Now, THAT was a good mosh pit. Hard and fast. Primus' music to me just does not sound like it should warrant moshing. And yes, I was up front for Ministry the whole time, ENJOYING the pit. Primus, I just did not enjoy...nuff said.

EDIT: I could care less about Bjork; I was there for (and moshed to) Aphex Twin.
