    I dont know whos side to take. The kid sounded like a total ass, ZOMG PATRIOT ACT ABUSE OF POWER!!, and seemed like he had it comming, and wouldnt get his ass up and move after being told over and over. Then again he just got tazed, and I have no idea how hard it is to move after that.

    Then the natural police hating instinct in me says they used way too much damn force, and should have just cuffed him, and dragged his screaming ass outside and into the squad car.

    well, pretty much sounds like the guy was resisting arrest. not like the cops were gonna just let him sit on the floor until he decided to come with them. it was kinda harsh, but it's also kind of hard to pull a grown, thrashing person out otherwise.

    I saw a kid at my college do almost the same thing, only without the political ranting. he was much smaller than this guy though, and the cop only had to pin and handcuff him. all the while the kid is kicking everything and screaming. seriously, with that many witnesses there, I doubt you're going to be wrongly convicted of something.

            This is absolutely unacceptable and there is no 'side to take' on this.

                  I've been tazed by a friend. if you're expecting it, it really doesnt effect you that much. it still hurts, but it won't knock you down.

                  I've only been surprise-tazed once, and I was running up some stairs when it happened. I went down hard.

                    That makes it unacceptable. The guy was leaving and if the rent-a-cop hadn't pushed it nothing would have happened.

                    But I laugh at your tale, there wasn't even a race factor.

                          The police killed a guy with a taser (or perhaps multiple tasers, I've heard conflicting accounts) just around the corner from my house a few weeks ago. I also remember hearing on the news when police tasered a 5 or 6 year old boy who was running around with a knife. Yeah, cops seem to have gotten taser happy since they're less likely to get in trouble than when they're gun happy.

                            On the other hand for a moment, you have to give the police some slack. They don't know what the guy is going to do. A situation could easily turn to **** and some guy pulls a gun.

                            A couple of years ago in Austin an old guy shot a police officer for giving him a seatbelt ticket. He had told the police department beforehand that he had been driving without it for 50 years and he wasn't going to start now. He specifically said that if he was stopped again for it he was going to shoot the officer. So then this rookie cop pulls the guy over and bam dead.

                            You just don't know how the situation is going to go when people start to act out bam the cop gets tasered.

                            Now does justify everytime someone gets tasered? Of course not, but if it was me I wouldn't ever take the situation for granted that it couldn't turn ugly.
