    Contest Judges

    Obright - RPG Maker 3
    ChuckRich - RPG Maker 2
    ThetrueCoolness - RPG Maker 1

These are the contest judges. They each have 3 games to judge. Each RPG Maker will have a winner.
    • Untraditional! (RPGM1)
    • Omegablade Saga (RPGM1)
    • Monkey Brothers demo (RPGM1)
    • SS World (RPGM2)
    • Tales of Goblia? (RPGM2)
    • Musical Chores (RPGM2)
    • A Series Aside (RPGM3)
    • Shadow of Torayu demo (RPGM3)
    • Duder and the Mage (RPGM3)

Scoring is based on Hitogoroshi's idea. Each category is to be scored on a 10-point scale.
    1. Layout:
Do towns look like towns, or is a just a place with an item shop, inn, and the next story character? Do worlds seem real, or do you just follow a path from one town/dungeon to the next? In essence, this catagory is to distingush whether a game has paid attention to detail or if it's just a bland game where you run around killing story enemies, talking to townspeople, and repeating ad nasuem. Layout also judges whether towns/dungeons are balanced.
    2. Plot or Concept:
This measures how cliched the story is (because god knows hell hath no fury like a Pavilionite reading a cliched story ), how much reason you are given for your actions (long backstory vs. "You look able bodied! Kill things in that forest!") and how real the story seems. Note that this concerns any writings within the game (bad plot gets bonus points for good ingame books, for example). However, if your game is highly minigame based and has no writings beyond instructions...well, Tabloid kicked ass, and it took a hit in the Gameplay catagory, so suck it up and hope it's fun.
    3. Creativity:
The contests are out to critque our use of similar wizards. So, Layout shows how well you can arrange the resources given, Plot shows how well you can explain it, and Creativity is kind of a catch-all for everything else. Basically, it judges what unqiue things you have done to maximize the resources given.
    4. Polish:
This is basicaly how professional the game looks. It kind of ties in with the other catagories, but thats inevitable. In a nutshell, the higher the score, the less it looks like it was made with a wizard (although, don't be hyper-conservative with high scores, because games made by a wizard will most likely at least slightly look like they were made with wizards.)
    5. Fun:
This is the most important stat, and thus, if two games are tied the one with the higher Fun wins. (If the Fun scores are tied, it's a draw.) This shouldn't need explaining. Just bear in mind that replay value is a part of this stat (so, if you play it to judge and play it again because you want to, it deserves very high marks.
Finally, give a summary of the game. After all, if a game got terrible marks they should know what to fix, and the contest winner should know what exactly made their game a winner.

Ideally, judges should complete the games they play. If the judge cannot stand to play a game through to the end due to it's quality, they can give up if they play for at least five hours and score it based on what they saw. the only reason this is allowed is because if a judge can't stand to play it all the way through, it's unrealistic to think anyone else would want to either.

PM contest reviews to me by december 31st (extensions will be given if neccesary), and do not tell the game maker their score in advance.

Thank you all for your help!

    Re: Contest Judges

Hey, Valk...just curious...are the games' creators allowed to have a dialogue with the judges during their playthrough? Reason being, in A Series Aside, I made the finding of some easter eggs pertinent to "finishing" the game. Meaning, there are additional writings that I would like Obright to read in his playthrough, but more than likely, they are going to be next to impossible for him to find without my assistance. Also, there is a place in the game where it actually prompts the player to send me a PM to get a code to unlock something, so in a standard playthrough, you would need to do this anyway. When I say "have a dialogue" with the judge, I simply mean give him hints on how to unlock everything, not present him with undue bias on how good I think my game is. Please take into account that I've designed the game in such a manner that some dialogue between the player and the creator is almost necessary in order to find all the hidden writings. Thanks.

I don't think it's very fair to rate a game on how Polish it is.

What about those that didn't come from Poland?

Hey, my grading system is in use! I feel so happy.
Although, my system's pretty harsh on my demo, because its not any fun yet.

What the hell is a wizard besides a guy with a scroll in one hand and a staff in the other?

Yep, that kind of wizard. You can thank Microsoft for that term.

Honestly I never thought about his use of wizard as I knew what he was getting at.

Hrafn wonders why the Polish deserve to have their own scoring category. Hrafn is not very fond of Polish people and their well-known inability to screw in lightbulbs.

PLEASE DON'T WRITE IN THE THIRD PERSON. IT'S MORE ANNOYING THAN ME TYPING IN ALL CAPS.

Hrafn had just been thinking about how his recent desire to post in the third person was similar to a person on another forum Hrafn frequents who once posted in all caps. Of course, Hrafn finds that more annoying, but Hrafn can see where both are obnoxious.

Hey, Valk...I'm going to have very limited access to the interwebs starting tomorrow until Jan. 17, so I was wondering...with all the reviews being due at the end of the month, when are the results going to be posted? I just do not want to come back two weeks after they are posted to finally see the results, so if you give me a general idea, I'll have a better idea of how to finagle some internet time between now and then...
