Ursus Quest: Tree of Life (checklist)

Whenever I think of something that needs to be done in ToL, I'm going to add it here in Orange. After I've completed it, I'll change the color to blue, and maybe date it. I'll start by checking off the things that I just completed, and a few that have been done for a while, just for background.

    - Finish the first town
    - Test the feasibility of all 8 quest path event concepts
    - Finish designing all 16 possible main hero encarnations (not including skills or stats)
    - Devise a plan of action for completing all 8 quest paths
    - Make weapons and equips
    - Make healing/restoring items
    - Choose, decorate, and place the hero's home (new town for it?)
    - Work out how many invisible events I'll need to track/alter time/weather/season, and NPC modes
    - Develop these ^ invisible events
    - Finish making all 30 basic characters (not including coding, just the models, 2D portraits, names, and which 4 NPC actions they will have)
    - Make game intro, and childhood stage storytellers
    - Devise a pattern for all common NPC modes, so that 'mode 1' will be the same for all to avoid confusion
    - Make and assign classes to each hero form, and each playable character
    - Decide how to deal with main hero portraits...probably won't have any in dialogues...maybe a 'mirror' somewhere, that checks to see which one you are, and then shows you that picture? It's too much to do this for every NPC conversation...it would be insane to make 16 different conversations for every one, and there's no way that I know of to set an event dialogue box to display the portrait of whomever is activating the event...you have to pick a specific person. The 'child' versions don't really count...they should be pretty easy, as you only see the 'child mode' of every NPC...and there are only 2 possible hero forms to take into consideration. Later though, there will be 14 other possible forms you might be...so...
    - Make a 'mirror' event

    - Finish world map 1
    - Finish the Thief quest path (the only one left incomplete)

    BATTLES

    - Make enemies - current enemy count (0)
    - Make hero classes
    - Make hero skills
    - Figure out how the 4 possible adult forms' skills will differ (att-def-restore-support-balanced, etc.)
    - FINISH making items

    CURRENT DU - 88.9%

Alright...that's enough for now. Once there are a lot more blue entries, I'll add some more...although the orange list is going to get a LOT longer when I start building all 8 levels of all 8 quest paths...the game will be built around those.

Not complaining, easily remedied by highlighting, but light blue doesnt work with Blue Emerald decided to say it before someone else does

Interesting idea though with tracking your progress using the forum

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

Ok...I think that fixes things for both skins. Thanks for the heads-up!

I've decided that I'm not going to even try to come up with a grand pattern or template to carry out making the 8 quest paths by...but instead just take each one as it comes, and deal with them all on an individual basis. By their very natures the paths are extremely diverse, so it just makes sense that they should all be made differently AND played differently. There will be some things that are common throughout all (or at least most) paths...like having to venture onto the map or a dungeon (or both), but the quest level when this happens will be different each time. This means that paths which require this early on will be more difficult until you've gotten some good equipment, or have enough money for all of the item's you'll need.

There are 8 quest paths, and 8 levels in each...meaning that there are 64 main quests all together. This seems like a lot, but if I just take it one quest at a time, and one path at a time...it should go by fairly quickly.

I know I said I was going to work on the quest paths first, but instead I wound up making much more of the individual parts that would go into making the game. I've made basic, unedited 'placeholder' items for every weapon, shield, armor, accessory and item, and I'd already made all of the quest items.

I assigned a class to each hero form, and was amazed at how symmetrical the male and female sides were without me having to labor over it too much. Both sides have an archer form, a great sword form, a sword/shield form, and a hacked 'staff' form. The 'dancer' female model and the 'thief' male model both have a whole line of staff-type weapons for them. I was really happy about how the thief looks with a staff, but I had to get used to the dancer using two staffs.

I was going to have trick equips for the thief forms also, but I thought better of it.

After I'd decided on classes for all of the hero forms, I decided what kind of characters the other playable characters would be. After that, I knew what kind of weapons I'd need. I decided to have 10 different weapons of each kind.

The armor is a bit trickier. Because there are so many possible hero forms, I'm going to have 4 different kinds of armor. That should be enough for 16 hero forms and all of the (10?) playable characters, without running out of room for more equip-able characters on any one piece of armor.

268 items currently, many of which are not 100% complete.
