How do "Graphics" come into play regarding different platforms? Do you determine how good the game looks in relation to other games made with the same software? i.e., do RM1 games get rated by how good they look for RM1, and RM2 games get rated according to how they look for RM2?
Valkysas
02-04-2005, 04:54 PM
kind of. while RPGM1 games won't be held to RPGM2 standards and vice versa, the graphics score is more of a "graphical presentation" score. doing the best you can with the software used.

This might be useful to have over here, too, since the criteria for "function" and "bonus score" isn't blatantly obvious:
A: Originallity
how original is the concept, the characters, etc.
B: Writing
does your dialogue suck? yes? no?
C: Story
does your story suck? yes? no?
D: Graphics
custom graphics, VFX, layouts, stuff like that.
Note: we will only judge what is there. we wont consider custom graphics (or the lack thereof) in the score if they arent in the game.
E: Function
does the game work? does it crash? is the interface horrible?
F: Bonus score
if the judge likes a game, they can choose to give it some bonus points.

With the extension, I might actually get done with something in time for this now. Maybe, I hope, we'll see.

Omg, I've been racing to get my game done by april 28th and i just saw the extention! whew! Just out of curiosity what made you decide to extend it?
Valkysas

the fact that so few people bothered to start until 2 months ago.

Hey Valk I have a question (sorry im new). Now that i have lots of xtra time to work on my game that I'll be entering in the anything goes contest, im considering making music for it, although it is an RPG Maker 1 game, I'm thinking of making mp3's that peolple could download and then they would play certian tracks when propted via computer or cd player...of course id make two versions within the game, 1 using my music, 1 using rpgm. music....So my question is would your web site be able to handle a larger download (game+mp3s). Thank you, just wondering...
Valkysas
04-26-2005, 04:35 PM
we will not host anything that is an MP3. it has to be a game file (gme, max, sps, xps) or a text file.
I've never put a game on the internet and I was wondering how you do that. I'm currently working on my game for rpgm 2 and i need to know what i have to buy so i can enter it into the contest. thanks for the help.

Get a Max Drive. The Max Drive that can hook up to your computer, and just copy your game saves, on it the Max Drive and transfer it to your computer.
Then just send it to the site. In the submissions forum.

It is buggy though, and can corrupt your memory card at whim. Ask about what to do to avoid the data corruption before using it.

Just curious, how many of you are planning to enter a game in this contest? if you are is it RPGM 1 or 2?
Valkysas
05-22-2005, 12:26 AM
since there's no limit on how old the games can be (even old games like remote control can be entered), I'm guessing this contest will get a huge response.
Alutra
05-22-2005, 12:29 AM
wow, so does that mean that the judges will have to play all the way through EVERY game before scoring it?
Valkysas
05-22-2005, 12:33 AM
well of course. we're not going to judge a game based on a few minutes of play.

hearing that old games can be entered, I'm not sure I should even attempt this anymore....
Plus, I dont even know if I'll finish by deadlines, but still... :|
Valkysas

dont be intimidated. if any older game are submitted, we'll still replay them and see how they fair. honestly, what may have been amazing 4 years ago could be viewed as really pathetic now.

I guess, but I'm failing one factor~originality.
My game is ripped off from nintendo *LoZ: SoM*, but I'll try though, plus, I've always wanted to enter a contest and see where i atleast rank *do you guys rank em?*

Well same with my Zelda game I'm entering, Doyle. I think that being the first idea of making the game was to make it Zelda, judges will take that into consideration. And where you may lack some in originality, they may add some in Bonus.
Which leads me to think. Hey Valk, with are contest submissions can we include like a paragraph or two to tell a little about our game in what we wanted to achieve with it, some extra info, etc...
Also I have a map guide, which makes progression of my game not take a year lol. Being that its a zelda game if you get stuck. You may sit there for a long while on a puzzle. So I figure giving my guide, along with e-mailing me a good resource for getting through my game, would help speed things up expecially if you plan on playing through all the games.
Oh and can we submit 2 games, cause I may get done with Shadow by then. Which is a completely different style then my Zelda. But if I finish it it wont be as big, and won't have VS Mode and Co-op modes which I feel are something really cool in Zelda. And I could never choose one over the other, but Shadow's battle system runs 1000X better than any other ACBS, especially my zelda game.
Finally then what is the right way to submit a game. And can we include that paragraph with it?
Valkysas
05-25-2005, 02:21 PM
you can only submit one game. This was decided because some people here have made 4-5 very good games, very LONG games, and we dont want to spend a week or two just playing their submissions.
we'll be set up to start taking contest entries next month. you can include anything you want with it, provided you want the same to be included in the public release. this includes any information you may feel like adding.

What does the Function category stand for? like if there are errors or bugs that were not fixed?
Will there be a contest for RPG Maker 3 when it comes out?
Valkysas
05-28-2005, 12:08 AM
doyleman, all the score categories were already explained.
Zero, we currently arent planning any contests at all for next year. we want to focus on the group projects for a while.

the way I see it, contests are boring. every site has contests. we're trying to be more individual. the only way I see it happening is if we think of a really great idea, or agetec wants to work with us on one.
that being said, before the end of contest #3, you'll probably see one more contest from us (I have no idea if it will even involve making a game), as I talked to mark the other day and he really wants to work with the pavilion and set up a contest in the near future. I think this will involve those free copies of RPGM3 he talked about.

Wow. I've just noticed that there isn't a category for gameplay. What if a game has crappy puzzles or the game's battles are very difficult and are very frustrating to get through? Would there be any points deducted?

Sorry Valk, I um...forgot to read before, :(
I screw up alot, sorry :|
But about this contest involving the free rpgm3s...it about 3 months to August, and still no info?! I'm too lazy to work for something that's almost here, so I guess I'm sticking outta this one.

Have the judges already started judging the games that are already on the Pavilion or will they start judging after the submission deadline is up?

I sent the other judge a dex drive a few months ago, dont know if she has started judging stuff yet. but it's entirely possible that she has. I havent thought to ask.

Wait, was the deadline for the contest midnight last night? 'Cause I just finished with an updated version of Jester's Hunt. Nothing that makes it worth playing again (unless you wanted to see the cruddy title screen I created), but I did some stuff to make it stand a bit of a better chance in the contest.
