    PSP to lose functions?

    http://pspupdates.qj.net/Sony-thinki...g/49/aid/72352

With the additions coming in version 3.0 (PS1 emulator, PS3 interaction), there are worries about the PSP's onboard memory running out. it's only 32 MB, and the current version of the firmware takes up around 28 MB.

in a new beta, sony is asking people what PSP features arent used that much. in other words, they're asking what is okay to remove.

    Watching video content
    Listen to music
    View photos
    RSS feeds subscription
    Internet browsing
    Use as a storage device

I dont want to see ANY of these go (except the RSS, that can die). internet browsing is handy for downloading demos and other content directly to the system. I carry bus schedules as image files on my PSP, and I also use it as an MP3 player. storage device is also neccesary, as I use it with my max drive software. video content, I like being able to drop an episode or two of a random TV show on a memory stick to watch on the bus.

They should let people choose what to add or remove with the firmware updates. I'd ditch the RSS feeds, and completely ignore PS3 compatability. I don't want to lose features in able to play PSP games that come out next year, and I sure as hell dont want to have two seperate PSPs.

They should definately remove the location free player. who the hell uses that?

all of those sound good to me. with photo viewer, I can read manga and webcomics whenever I damn well please! and RSS feed could tell me if Fred's actually going to have a Megatokyo up in time.
I'm getting a PSP for my birthday!

I have never used the music function, internet browser, or RSS feeds, and I seldom use the video viewing capabilities, except for movies and TV shows I bought in UMD format.

I get quite a bit of use, however, out of the photo viewer and I'm not sure if the Max Drive software I have will work exclusively with my PSP, or is compatible with USB drives, so I don't really want to see the PSP lose its storage functions.

Those are the only things I use the PSP for and I use all of them all the time. I browse the web from my bed, I use the photo viewer for manga, and I use the music and video players to watch and listen to the podcasts I download through RSS.

You can't take away the storage device, music player, and video player capabilities without rendering the RSS function useless.

If they take any of this stuff away, I just won't update. It's not like there are any new PSP games I want anyway. lolz

They could always make the internet browser, MP3 player, and whatever else their own eboot files, to be loaded through the memory stick's "game" option.
