    The minotaurs are coming.

UK scientists have applied for permission to create embryos by fusing human DNA with cow eggs.

Researchers from Newcastle University and Kings College, London, have asked the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority for a three-year licence.

The hybrid human-bovine embryos would be used for stem cell research and would not be allowed to develop for more than a few days.

What ever happened to the good old days when a god had to transform himself into a bull and love some lonely housewife up before we had to worry about cow-people running around?

Like hell they wouldn't be allowed to live longer than a few days. You know some crazy guy is gonna steal one away and raise it as his own.
      ...and that's why.

So people who are 00.1% cow... I'm not impressed. They can mix goat and spider DNA successfully, each goat is 1/70,000th(actual figure) spider, this isn't really as out there and therefore as cool as I first would have thought.

        Mammal + Mammal = Meh.

        Mammal + Arachnid = Yes!

          Cowboys and cowgirls.

Actually, I wouldn't see any real issue with letting them grow, potential scientific limitations aside. It's not cloning. Not direclty anyway, I don't think. But then, I don't know how cloning works. Do clones come from eggs like that? I figured that they took a blood cell and did something with it, though probably not. I really have no idea.

What has the world come to?

But this raises the question, 'Could you make a 'Chocobo' by fusing chicken DNA with an ostrich egg?'
                1) Statement 2 is true
                2) Statement 1 is false

                    MWA HA HA HA!

I'd rather we play god with clones than play god with super colliders and open a tear in the universe in Arizona.

Simplified version it's a lot like invitro fertilization but instead of fertilizing the egg with a sperm (resulting in a zygote with half its DNA from the egg and half from the sperm as normal) they use a full DNA strand from someone's cell.

Well if I'm understanding this correctly, then cloning isn't as much a bad thing as I had figured. Although I doubt you could get a man-cow if you took a female cow and had some guy-- but that's getting into another discussion altogether.

I apparently have nothing useful to contribute to this topic, but...

                          minotaurs are coming.

Would that even make anything? I mean would it actually create a mutant, or just never develop?

I think that's the question of the hour.

I hope it creates a mutant. Why? I have my reasons..
