    Amethyst Dreams

Since my sim-game got erased, i thought of making more of a serious game

    quick definition:http://www.gemstone.org/gem-by-gem/e.../amethyst.html

Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that amethyst was able to dissipate evil thoughts and quicken the intelligence.

So thats what the game is based on, theres a Amethyst Stone that keeps the world safe from evil, and keeps everyone productive in working for the better of mankind, theres a scientist who unknowingly develops a potion that impedes on the stones magical powers, now less intelligent since the stone isnt helping him anymore, he gets fired from his job and gets furious and sets out to destroy the stone, he finds it and breaks it into 7 pieces and spread it throughout the world

Now that the stone is gone, mass confusion reigns supreme, people are killing people, total towns are falling to pieces, and monsters start turning against their human masters

An adventurer happens across one of these pieces of amethyst one day in a town hes visiting, and finds no one town has been affected by these recent turn of events, wanting to get things back the way they used to be, he talks to the minister of the local church, who shows him a scroll telling him about the history of the amethyst stone, knowing the joining of the other 6 pieces to the one he has will restore order, he sets out with the minister(a white mage) and a volunteer black mage to find the other 6 pieces

so what do you all think? any suggestions?

I thought it was good, 'til you said the words "white mage," "black mage," and "find the other 6."

yea kinda cliche but hey...every game sounds cliche these days, theres not anything you can do to make a game original anymore

The story's penned very well. Who cares if it's cliche? It's difficult to be truly original nowadays because many other game ideas have that "been there, done that" shtick, so if you're gonna make a familiar story, make it the best you've ever written.

Yours gets mad props from me, so keep up the good work, chummer.

I say, just avoid the whole "collect x items" plot that you have now. Although, I can't think of anything better.

well not only do you have the 6 shards to collect, you have other side missions and stuff to do

Ive started making the items today, I have 48 right now, thats NOT including weapons/armor/helmets/treasure/etc... so some of the fun part is going to be discovering all the items in the game and what each one does

Ive also devised a clever way to randomly make weather change, the game will also be able to change days/nights and seasons over time, and you can only do certain things during certain conditions, so itll be a pretty long and interesting game, but there will be tons of things to do outside of the condition quests so you dont get bored waiting around

            Thanks for the words Goemon

I say make it however you want, but put effort into it. Don't have six crystals to find just for the sake of having six crystals to find, otherwise you'll wind up making a game that nobody will enjoy, including yourself.

I think it could turn out to be a good game. I like a game with lots of items that have special characteristics. Any little plot twists that you can add can make the game more interesting to play through.

People say that you can make games quickly with RPG Maker 3. Well, a bad game can be made quickly, but a game that people enjoy playing takes time and lots of play-testing.

                Go for it JPS!

Great sounding game! I'm intrigued by this 'random weather' concept...I've been toying with something similar in my new game. Collecting in games is cliche for a reason...it's fun!

I'm looking forward to playing this...a game inspired by an artist!

                    Re: Amethyst Dreams

Well I kinda scrapped the amethyst crystal Idea...well not exactly, you'll earn them for defeating bosses throughout the game so its not exactly cliche

anyways I started making the game yesterday....like all day yesterday....I spend about 8 hours on it and all I have to show for it is you giving a book to someone, hearing banging and screaming outside, when you go outside theres a woman screaming thet "They" invaded the castle, and when you go in you have your first boss fight...cliche i know but im adding more to it

By the way Im thinking about taking out random battles.....those gets annoying, especially when you have to walk halfway across a screen and get hit by 5-6 battles along the way....Im thinking about having Items you can find in certain places and items you win from certain bosses in sidequests to where you can release their power and you gain 1 level..what do yall think?

Yea the last time I experimented with random weather/time/seasons it ended up being stretched out along 3 continuous modes....137 lines of coding for 1 event, the load time was too long for just a random spot

Im working on a timer event and a randomized number system, I know its possible I just have to get the coding right...but the game likes getting stuck in loops so I have to figure out a way around that, but right now thats my main focus and the game is second...I am seriously determined to figure both out because I personally like to use both in every game i make, plus having both available to the RPGM3 community would open doors to hundreds of new ideas

Sounds good. Although, maybe you could make it so that your stats increase based on the item, rather than just increasing your level. Maybe if each item could only be used on one person (of your choice), and you limited the number of items you could give to a single person, you'd have a pretty good levelling system. Far better than the default one.

I think when you increase your level within an event your stats increase also...not sure on that though

thats a good idea, itll involve quite a few variables to keep up with but i like the idea

but also remember im having a adventurer thats skilled in attack and defense with 0 magic, a white mage skilled in white magic with near 0 STR and a black mage skilled in black magic with near 0 STR, some of the creatures im making are immune to physical attacks(making the black mage the man) and others are immune to magic attacks(making the adventurer the man), if you throw all of your level ups into one character, yea youll be able to knock a lot of creatures in one hit...but what are you going to do with a level 99 adventurer with 0 magic up against a level 3 creature with anti-physical traits?

BTW the random battles will involve an "arena" type area on the map, where you'll earn EXP and "Tokens" that you can trade in for special items, so youll have an alternate way of leveling up, and have some fun in the process

                        EDIT TO ADD
I just got what you said DYRE, Ive already made items that does that
