    Nintendo's at it again.

    Game Boy >> GameBoy Pocket >> GameBoy Color
    GameBoy Advance >> GameBoy Advance SP >> GameBoy Micro
    DS >> DS Lite

    And now, before the Wii has even debuted, Nintendo reveals a second version of the next-gen console.
    Nintendo has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that there are plans to launch a new version of the Wii featuring DVD playback functionality in Japan.

    Speaking to GI.biz, a spokesperson declined to comment on when the new machine will hit the shops, but did confirm, "There are currently plans to release a version of Wii in Japan featuring DVD playback."

    He added, "There are currently no plans to bring this model to Europe or the US."
    Naturally, this version will probably come here eventually. And then they'll re-release it again in new colors bundled with Wii Sports: Dalmation & Friends or something.

      Oh, come on. nintendo isnt the only one doing multiple versions of a console.
      Aside from the current systems, there's the Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3, and God only knows how many 3DOs and PS1 varaitions there are...

        Of course they're not the only ones. 360 and PS3 are built around having two versions. I just thought it was funny. Every time I post about something game related people take it more negatively than I intended it to be. But if I post something positive it just gets pretty much ignored, lol.

                I think making a "new version" is dumb, but this is so unimporant that I can't see it really mattering. If you don't already have a DVD player by now, why are you buying a Wii instead?

                  I'm pretty sure that there was a GameCube with DVD-playback also, and it was Japan-only. I forget what it was called, though. Que, I think?
