Re: Please
The only way to be banned is to earn it, thats correct.
The reasons we don't honor ban requests are:
1. if people want to leave, they should be able to do it under their own power
2. people inevitably want to be un-banned (usually just a day or so after they request the ban), and so the whole thing is just a waste of the staff's time.Last edited by Valkysas; 10-25-2006, 12:21 AM.

Re: Please
Not to mention the word ban has negative connotations meaning you were kicked off of the site because you did something wrong, not because you just don't want to come anymore. Really if you don't want to come anymore don't. There is no need to ban yourself to make this happen. Not that I'm encouraging anyone to leave, but things happen and people move on.
So that being said if you need time off, or don't want to be a part of this site anymore just don't come, no need to go through the process of banning you to accomplish that.
So it does make a lot of sense that you only get banned for breaking the rules, as that is what it means to be ban (aka banished) from a site.
Also Valk has said countless times he doesn't honor these requests, for the reasons he stated here, and probaby the reason above. A ban is for someone who did something against the rules. It's like if you want to leave the military or some other organization, you give your notice and you leave, you don't ask for a dishonorable discharge do you.

Re: Please
I understand that if people don't want to come here they just need to stop, and it's sad if they don't have that much self-control, BUT I think it's absolutely stupid if someone is set on getting banned that you make them spam and degrade this place in order to get their wish. If someone is set on getting banned your might as well take the 4 seconds to do the 6 clicks it takes to ban them. I'm sure it hardly takes up any admin time. If it takes any longer than that then VB is the crappiest bulletin system in the world.Everything is a Riemann sum of a lot of nothing.

Re: Please
Speaking with experience as someone who owns a forum(its not nowhere near as big as this), but nonetheless it takes up time, it dont sound like much time but when you have 1200+ people to keep an eye on then yea it does take a lot of time, im sure vbulletin has regulations on what exactly can be put in their forum and its the job of the admin to make sure no one violates it, otherwise the board can be shut down(well this is a paid forum, so im not sure whether you have restrictions or not), not to mention all the topic moves and everything they have to do
But if someone doesnt have enough self-control to stop coming in here, then its on them, not on admin, I see no reason for admin to waste their time doing something that isnt going to benefit the board as a whole, thats the whole purpose of banning, is to get the trouble makers out, plus, zieg only averages 1.88 posts per day, so its not like hes obsessively posting
EDIT TO ADD
after searching all of his past posts, hes been active enough the last week to make up for the last year of inactivity...
thats probably why he wants to be banned, but i still dont see any reason to, use self control and remove this site from your favorites if you dont wanna come here anymore

Re: Please
You're still missing the point. A ban is only for someone who breaks the rules. Let me say that againOriginally posted by - View PostI understand that if people don't want to come here they just need to stop, and it's sad if they don't have that much self-control, BUT I think it's absolutely stupid if someone is set on getting banned that you make them spam and degrade this place in order to get their wish. A BAN is ONLY for someone who breaks the rules.
So like I said, if you want to leave or take some time off of the forum, wouldn't you rather do that under good terms instead of being banned. Also it is better for the person to learn self control, and stop coming on their on, if this is the reason they want to be banned. It will make them feel better about themselves because they did it, not because they were forced to. I'm pretty sure we don't do it on principle, not because it takes time (though that is a factor when you have so many members). Though that is my stance on it and I know Valk has expressed his many times in other threads like this.
Honestly how many other sites do you see ban people who just want some time off, or to leave permantly of their own will. That's right, none of them. Just like in school, do you ask to get Out of School suspension because you're sick to keep you from going to school? So why would you ask for a ban to be able to leave a forum.
Just to clarify for Zieg, I am talking in the general and not about you specifically. So since you have not stated why you want to be banned I make no assumptions. But it is a rule here that ban requests are not accepted, for the reasons I have stated above, and because Valk has said numerous times we don't allow them.Last edited by thetruecoolness; 10-25-2006, 05:42 PM.

Re: Please
This website is addictive.
Why dont you just change your password to somthing ridiculous that you will never remember, full of spaces and everything.
I did that, but it hasn't worked yet.Last edited by Red Dragon; 10-25-2006, 07:03 PM.
