    Playtesting help

I have a character battle. I set the Characters Hp to like 300. When I playtest, one of my guys attacks, deals 17 damage, and the character dies right off the bat. It makes no sense. I have looked at everything. It's as if the game just doesn't read the characters class data when he goes into battle.
I have had a few other glitches happen when I edit something and then playtest--like I change the background music for a dungeon, then when I go playtest, it still plays the old music. I save the database before I playtest. Any ideas on what is happening? It seems like editing and saving the database doesn't change everything, like sometimes the game runs with data that has been edited and saved over, I swear. Has anyone else encountered similar glitches, or am I just missing something?
This has become very frustrating. With this one character battle, I can't not get it so he doesn't fall down on the first hit. I even made a new class for him with 999 hp and 99 Def and he still fell down on the first hit (of 17 dam). Maybe I'm just missing some minor detail?

If I’ve got the map or if I’m lost.

All I can think of is that your not assigning the class to the character. Either that or something may be fundamentally wrong with your copy of RPGM3. I'll try this later on mine and see what happens, but I have a feeling someone else may answer before I do.

are you sure you didnt set the 300 to HP^ by accident instead of HP Base? HP Base is applied at the beginning of the game while HP^ isnt applied until youre past level 1

Also a faulty memory card could cause glitches in saving and retrieving

        RE: the battle dilemma
Check the class you want your character to be (and all its stats)
Check that the character has actually been assigned this class
Check the level your character is at when the battle occurs
Use the in-game menu to double-check what you have just finished checking in the editor.

I don't know how many times I've kicked myself for just forgetting something really silly. I hope that's all it is in your case. I'd be interested to see what you found the problem to be.

I've found some similar kinds of things that happen like that when I was playtesting from a previous save. I then went to the editor, and changed the name of one of the characters in the town. I saved the changes and went back to that previous save, played, and the character in the town still had the old name. It turns out not to be a problem though because once you start the game fresh all the edits that you've made, since the last time you saved the data on your card, take effect. It should be fine.

One thing, though, regarding the suggestion that you may have a faulty game - DO NOT get rid of your RPG Maker 3 game unless you are absolutely, positively, 100% I mean, sure that there is a physical problem with the disk. One never knows, but I suggest caution. And Phoenix, I'm not negating your suggestion in any way. Something very well could be wrong.

The only reason I say this (I know it seems obvious.) is that I was trying to help someone figure out something in their game and I didn't know the solution, so I told them that it could be their actual game. They then went to trade in their game and later I came to find out in a thread I posted about it that Draygone knew what was wrong, and my friend had sold the RPG maker 3game in vain only to have to wait a while to get another copy. I felt so horrible. I still get teased about that one.

I suggest starting a new game very time (for the music and stuff errors), It's not like you can't just insta teleport yourself anywhere, or level yourself up.

            Re: Playtesting help

The problem is that I am playtesting from saves. For some reason, the save holds (some) database info in it (I guess). It must, because if you change the sound in an area near a save (or other things for that matter) they sometimes remain the same if you upload a save nearby. I knew it was nothing wrong that I had done (class and so forth) because I had 2 character battle events for that character--one on mode 1 of him, and one on mode 4. The mode one one worked perfect, and the mode four one was the one that wouldn't work at all (I must have edited it later after I had a save nearby). This is very frustrating for playtesting. I know you can just start a new game in edit mode and all. But for playtesting (with levelling up and variables and all) you really need to load saved games. It'd take just as long to get all the levels, characters, items, shared variables and such to where they should be for that point in the game, you know.

Anyways, thanks Pagerron, for confirming that the game does do that to other people (not update little changes on saves). I was really hoping it wasn't my memory card or PS2 or copy of the game.

                Re: Playtesting help

I'm new to the game myself, but I've found that playtesting only seems to work with current characters and areas. I can change monster hp, character's defense, whatever. However if I add in a new random character with dialogue and play from an old save game, they'll be there but won't talk. However if I modify a character I already had in the old save to, let's say join the party, they will. I think the save goes off of what's already there, and it will see new content but not recognize the event coding.

                ...atleast that's my guess.

Also I agree with the above that you can just teleport around and increase your lvl at will. However all my characters join via events, and in one case battling them. So it's kinda annoying to have to go thru battles like that over and over just to get them in the group so I can test them in higher up battles.

                  Re: Playtesting help

Obright already gave you advice about not double and triple posting, so I'll give you a piece of advice here...it's generally frowned upon to necro (bring back from the dead) 2 year old topics.

That being said, this IS the RPGM forum, and you DO actually have something to contribute to the discussion (even though it does not really relate to the original question posed), so it's really not a big deal. Just do not go into the Free Forum or Video Game forum and do the same thing.

Also, I'm guessing you used the search feature to find this thread, which is good. More newbies need to use search instead of making a topic asking the same question that's already been asked a million times.

And finally, I'm not sure how we've had such a run of luck here this past month....almost all the newcomers in the past month who seem like they are serious about RPGM (you're the 4th or 5th one), and have a good chance of sticking around, all seem fairly intelligent, literate, and best of all, seem to have a firm grasp on the English language. Therefore, Fading, I commend you.
