    You like old movies?!

A lot of today's movies are great, but I have this soft spot for classic films of days gone by.

When I was a kid, I saw the French Connection with Gene Hackman on TV. The car chase scenes got me excited, let me tell you....plus Gene Hackman is a brilliant actor. Since then, I've grown to love the old movies that I wasn't around for when they first appeared in theaters. The movies may be old, but they still have the chops to excite today's audiences, and many of them are better than some of the new stuff we pay $10 dollars (or maybe more) to see in multiplexes!

Just last night, I ordered an old anime movie of 1986 called Macross: Do You Remember Love? (the perfect edition on DVD) I remember seeing it as Macross: Clash of the Bionoids when my older brother brought it home from the video store and we started watching it. That movie changed my perception of Robotech. The dubbing of Clash of the Bionoids was just absolutely, laughably HORRIBLE. (The genius who voiced Hikaru should be taken out back and SHOT FIVE HUNDRED TIMES AND BURNED!) Glad I can now experience the Macross DYRL in its original language--UNCUT.

I also LOVE King Kong (1934). It looks really cheesy, but back then it scared the bejeezus out of audiences when it first premiered. Also, the old Godzilla movies are great, too. I've seen all but three--one of them being Son of Godzilla, or something.

So, who here is a sucker for movie classics?

Unless you own an R2 or regionless DVD player, that Macross DVD you ordered is pirated.

Not to worry. I DO own a regionless DVD player. And I ordered it off EBay.

        I hope that's a good thing.

                Aw man I've been duped.

EDIT: Wow, I checked the prices over at the link you provided. $66.00, I believe. And the DVD is region coded in areas except the United States. Don't know what that means, though.

You are so going straight to hell for buying a pirated DVD when you didn't know it was pirated. The John Mora Bringdown Patrol will be at your house shortly to punch you square in the nuts.

                    I know.....I'm guilty. I thought I knew a great deal when I saw one.

It's just that I've ALWAYS wanted to own a copy of Macross DYRL and I jumped at the opportunity to buy it when I saw it listed at $12.00. You're right. I had no idea it was PIRATED. I'm going down.

I must be the BIGGEST DOOFUS in these forums.

several other members have un-knowingly bought pirated anime DVDs off ebay. At least you (hopefully) found out in time to cancel it. Marlwolf didnt find out until his pirated Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory set had already shipped, and then got treated to subtitles like "Do not retard my business!" "Sir Anabel Gator" "he stealing the gaoda!"

There are several guides written by eBay members in regards to how to spot bootleg DVDs. Check them out. Otherwise, POW!!!

I took care of the cancellation. No money wasted.

Still though.....I feel like such a fool. It's only $12.00, but.....

I guess it's better to spend more money on the real thing than penny-pinch and end up with some crappy fake.

pirated anime DVDs always have atrocious subs, and some have horrible audio and video problems. the gundam set mentioned above didnt have any sound coming out of the right speaker when set to stereo on several episodes.
