A lot of today's movies are great, but I have this soft spot for classic films of days gone by.
When I was a kid, I saw the French Connection with Gene Hackman on TV. The car chase scenes got me excited, let me tell you....plus Gene Hackman is a brilliant actor. Since then, I've grown to love the old movies that I wasn't around for when they first appeared in theaters. The movies may be old, but they still have the chops to excite today's audiences, and many of them are better than some of the new stuff we pay $10 dollars (or maybe more) to see in multiplexes!
Just last night, I ordered an old anime movie of 1986 called Macross: Do You Remember Love? (the perfect edition on DVD) I remember seeing it as Macross: Clash of the Bionoids when my older brother brought it home from the video store and we started watching it. That movie changed my perception of Robotech. The dubbing of Clash of the Bionoids was just absolutely, laughably HORRIBLE. (The genius who voiced Hikaru should be taken out back and SHOT FIVE HUNDRED TIMES AND BURNED!) Glad I can now experience the Macross DYRL in its original language--UNCUT.
I also LOVE King Kong (1934). It looks really cheesy, but back then it scared the bejeezus out of audiences when it first premiered. Also, the old Godzilla movies are great, too. I've seen all but three--one of them being Son of Godzilla, or something.
So, who here is a sucker for movie classics?
