Arrgh!!! why didn't Microsoft tell me my downloads were linked to the 360's serial #?

Before Xbox Live went down today for their updates, I had always been online. But I bought/downloaded most of my content on my old box before sending it in for repairs. But they instead sent me a brand new one. Seemed fine because I had everything on my HDD still.

But now that I am offline only today, almost everything I bought isn't showing. Themes and gamer pictures won't show in the dashboard, and my arcade titles are now trial versions. o_O

Even the free downloads for games that cost nothing at all, because they are free, are not showing. Dead Rising for example had downloadable costumes but playing offline does not bring them up in the game.

When I got the new system, Microsoft did say that they would update my personal information with the new serial number, so hopefully I can just go online with my profile and download everything again. But seeing as how obvious it is now that they don't want people to just download stuff and give it to their friends, i dunno if it'll work.

I can't play street fighter II with just ryu and guile! >_< It ends after one fight.

Wow, I never knew that. O_o

Sorry to hear that, I hope they do re-instate your stuff to your account though.

as long as i am online with my account, everything is fine.

but it's when I am offline that the problem occurs. that's stupid, it should just be linked to my gamertag to see if I am on it. You can move a gamertag to different storage units, but there's no Copy function for it, so why they linked it to the console bugs the hell out of me.

        That sucks.

Similar thing happened with the registration key to my copy of Microsoft Office, etc. when my old computer crashed before I could unistall it.

WHAT!? My room mate and I share a 360 for now and I'll be damned if I'm paying for all the stuff that I downloaded on my gamertag again.

That's about as bad as not being able to play all your old XBox games on the 360.

Don't sweat it, though. I'm confident you'll get the problem fixed.

Don't count on it. Same happened to me, then again when I called whoever I talked to, nobody could barely speak my language. (english.)
