Re: EA fills Battlefield with ads
Well nothing that new, at least they're not just ads for their games. I think as long as it's just on billboards and such on the game it's fine. Really if anything it would make the game more realistic as we are used to seeing ads on billboards and such in real life. Now if they start pulling things like on the web (especially those damn flash ads that take up nearly whole page when you get the mouse anywhere near them) then I would get upset.
Of course I'm sure none of the consumers will see a drop in price of the game because of this, so that doesn't make it look so good (since it makes it look like EA is just being greedy). So in games it fits, like sports games and ones based on the current world, I think in game advertising is fine. However, in futuristic games, and ones without billboards, designer shoes and such it will look really out of place and I think people will reject it.
So the year is 2142, and every company from 2006 has survived to this day and still has the cash to advertise. Yeah right.Last edited by thetruecoolness; 10-17-2006, 04:40 PM.

Re: EA fills Battlefield with ads
What do they think they're doing here? Honestly, they need to let somebody else make these sort of decisions. We need to boycot the games from companies that do this, before it gets out of hand. As a matter of fact, I think we here at the pav could do a better job managing these companies, and we could do it without ******* people off! It wouldn't make me mad if it where a struggling company, but EA! Geez!I don't have a signature.
OK maybe I do.
But I'm just holding it for a friend I swear.

Re: EA fills Battlefield with ads
A couple of small ads on a billboard while driving through a game is not that big a deal. Quite far from stealing your soul.
OH NOES he has on Nike shoes, that's it I'm boycotting this game.
When they start making full screen ads, or plastering them everywhere on the game, or the whole game is one big ad, then I have a problem with it. Little ads on billboards that blip by as your racing, I don't see how that's a big deal, everything doesn't always snowball you know. And if it helps boost the revenue of a company a bit, so maybe they can make a better game by having a big budget, I don't see what they're hurting.
If anything they add to the immersion of the game, would you rather have blank billboards in a game. So is it neccessary to the game, no, does it really get in the way of gameplay, no. When it starts interfering with the immersion and gameplay then it's a problem, small ads you hardly notice unless you really try to, I don't see the big deal with that.
Is having a real ad any different from having a fake one in it's place for small in game objects?Last edited by thetruecoolness; 10-17-2006, 08:00 PM.

Yeah I do agree with that, but then again it's EA so that won't be happening.Originally posted by Valkysas View PostEA isn't hurting for money. if they're going to put ads into games, it should be to cut the cost to the players.
I was just saying in general if ads don't take away from the game, then I don't see the big deal in putting them in as long as they fit, and aren't like drink coke to replinish your energy.

Ads are all well and fine until you start putting other software and things on my computer to advertise for you.Last edited by Ivalice; 10-17-2006, 09:22 PM.If you don’t like the Revolution controller, you are fundamentally part of the problem and killing the ****ing art form. ~Kieron Gillen
