    Question about Switches

I don't understand how they work... How would I make it so when the player steps on a switch it opens a door? I can't find a way to select a switch and make a event for it... Do I just place an invisible event on top of it? And if so, how would I makee an event that opens a door?

    Thanks in advance...

    Re: Question about Switches

You place a switch in the dungeon (in the dungeon editor)
Create an invisible auto event in the dungeon layout mode (with the switch one on as a trigger)
Program whatever you want to happen in the event code of that auto event.
I don't think you can program the switch to open a locked door, but you could program it to give you the key that unlocks a door.

Also, check this thread. It's an old one, but it's some interesting stuff I found out about switches.http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/...ead.php?t=7552

...Which describes my second puzzle dungeon in A Series Aside in a nutshell.

And yeah, you were right about switch placement, Page. I had to use trial and error to figure out which switch opened which treasure chest. I stand corrected.

I use switches for traps sometimes.

But, but, the best thing is to have a friend come over, and have him 'playtest' a dungeon you set up for him--one that has a trap every 5 steps, and in every corner. I think that is what the traps are there for (to bring amusement to me as I am halfway through a 2 liter bottle of wine).

I think that it's fine to use traps, but it would be cool to make a bonus item available for the player that turns them off too. Otherwise, it might get frustrating, but then again, if everyone is drinking at the time, it might not matter all that much, but that's getting off topic. Sure, use traps, but not as simply a cause of frustration.

I just wish there was a way to make a character react to traps. ie a hammer flys into his face and he gets knocked back.

I'm almost positive you can't turn traps off with switches. You can with items and skills though.

The only thing switches do is control when a certian event is to play. Like say you want to have a locked door that can only be opened with a switch you have to place an invisible event down in front of the door that is triggered when the switch is off. You would have to say the door is locked and then use the movement command to move the player back awat from the event so if you walk over it again it get's triggered.

I don't know I just hope that helps at all.
