I was wondering if it's possible to get my PS2 online without it being connected to a router. I've got my PC right next to my PS2 now, my PC has an ethernet card in it, and a USB wi-fi reciever. Is it at all possible to network my PS2 with my PC to use that connection?

Re: PS2 Online help.
the router is not in the same room (or on the same floor) as my PC and PS2.
I know you're supposed to plug the PS2 into a router to use the connection. I'm asking for ways around that.
with possible employment and Phantasy Star Universe on it's way, I want to get the thing online.Last edited by Valkysas; 10-14-2006, 12:27 AM.

Re: PS2 Online help.
valk, i'm going out to a movie in a few minutes, but is that ethernet card what connects your internet connection to your PC, or is it a separate card? if it is the one that gives you the internet connection, then your configuration wont work, and you would actually need a separate ethernet card, but if your pc is next to the PS2, you could disconnect the ethernet cable from the pc and connect it to the PS2 when you want to go online.
Edit: i'll help when i get back from the movie or in the morning if you need it.Last edited by Jeroak Nelave; 10-14-2006, 12:34 AM.Vita, 3DS, PSP, PS3, PC, WiiU, Wii & 360

Re: PS2 Online help.
the ethernet card in my PC to the best of my knowledge has nothing to do with my internet connection. My internet is provided via a wi-fi reciever sitting ontop of my PC, that is connected to it with a USB cable. right now absolutely nothing is connected to my ethernet port. there's no ethernet cable involved in my current configuration.
and thanks for the help.

Re: PS2 Online help.
What about a 10$ hub valk? Your PC and PS2 will share the connection, but will not have seperate lines as if it was a router.
Acutally, Im not sure sure if they make a device to recieve a signal and hub it into a ether connection....hmmmLast edited by Ivalice; 10-14-2006, 12:58 AM.If you don’t like the Revolution controller, you are fundamentally part of the problem and killing the ****ing art form. ~Kieron Gillen

Re: PS2 Online help.
Yeah I think you would need a crossover cable to be able to do this, and you will probably have to turn on internet sharing on your PC. After you get a job, especially if you get one at best buy, you can get one of these for cheap. You could try a regular ethernet cable in the meantime though. Just hook it from your PC to your PS2.
I'll google turning your computer into a DHCP server real quick and edit it in, since you will need to do this to share your connection.

Re: PS2 Online help.
Well I guess try this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126
and then set the info to be what you get from Run>cmd>ipconfig /All.
Make sure it's the wired connection you're getting the info from.
I really thought this would be easier, though it seems it's not so easy.Last edited by thetruecoolness; 10-14-2006, 02:04 AM.
