    Clover Dissolved?!

    http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3154381

    Capcom shut down Clover.

Some were calling them the next generations Treasure, which I think they could have been.

    What a god damn shame.

Maybe they should have released more WWII FPS games to stay in buisness. =/

This is everyone who didn't buy Okami's fault.

          I hate you all.

I hope you're happy, Capcom! Dave's probably at his desk right now, crying like a little girl!

All the clover games are much more appealing to me than their mainstream (and for the most part, carbon copy) games.

IM SORRY!!! BUT I DID BUY GOD HAND AND I OWN ALL THE VIEWTIFUL JOES EXCEPT THE HANDHELD ONES AND I LOVE THEM EVEN RED HOT RUMBLE WHICH WASN'T RECIEVED WELL CRITICALLY BUT WILL ALWAYS HOLD A PLACE IN MY HEART FOR FAVORITE PARTY GAME AS IT IS A VERY HECTIC AND FAST PACED GAME MUCH LIKE SMASH BROTHERS ONLY IT THREW IN OTHER RANDOM SEGMENTS TO KEEP THE ACTION HIGH.

I was looking forward to what Clover was gonna do next. Viewtiful Joe, Okami and most recently God Hand.....people RAVED about those. They're awesome games--more so than some of the other crap that we see today.

Ugh....this sucks. They along with Atlus had the best orginal games out there.

Dammit, I loved the Viewtiful Joe games. Now it looks like Capcom will just have unoriginal crap.

                      Re: Clover Dissolved?!

i say be thankful for the games they did release. as the article said, if capcom decides to just flat out lay them off(which i find unlikely), they'll find work elsewhere and most likely keep creating the games they wanted to anyway.

i find this to be no loss. just because 'clover' won't exist doesn't mean everything associated with them is final, dead and gone. have faith people!

                          Re: Clover Dissolved?!

According to Chris Kohler's blog, Clover might have left Capcom.

                          http://blog.wired.com/games/

UPDATE: A source who wishes to remain anonymous is telling me that the Clover gang actually wants to split from Capcom and form their own independent development studio. So the dissolution, then, would have been caused by the developers deciding to take off.

UPDATE 2: There's an English version of the press release up now.

Clover Studio, creators of Capcom titles like Viewtiful Joe and God Hand, has been dissolved, according to a press release that hit the publisher's web site this morning. The subsidiary was wholly owned by Capcom.

I'm not one for reading financial statements and the like, but this is what I'm getting from the release: so as to streamline the game development process, they've broken up Clover and will be pulling its employees (like Atsushi Inaba, who I interviewed at Tokyo Game Show) back into Capcom proper (or not -- see update above). Clover Studio had its offices in the same Osaka building in which Capcom is located.

The liquidation will be formally concluded at the end of March, 2007, the close of the Japanese fiscal year. Again -- if I'm reading the release right, they'll announce a "special loss" on the balance sheets at that time of approximately 400 million yen (approx. $3,351,610.)

(Anybody who's more adept at reading Japanese financial guidance than I am is welcome -- nay, beseeched -- to comment and correct me.)

But they made Okami, which is like the best game I've ever played! It makes no sense! D:

However, if they were to go off and make their own studio and make games solo, that would be awesomeriffic.

It's entirely possible that they're going to start working with inafune's new company that operates under capcom.
