Sony AU: "Wii and 360 are too expensive."

I'm sure you've heard this already, but for those who haven't the president of Sony Australia recently gave an interview where he complained that the 360 and the Wii are too expensive for the average family.

He then gave a followup in which he explained that the delay of the system is a good thing because it means that people won't have to wait in lines and be disappointed that it's sold out. Or something.

I'm sure the guy was talking about the best value in pure hardware power for the money, in which he is right (especially for the Wii). Still, the guy comes off sounding like a moron. Sony should just have a gag order for their own sake.

By his own logic, the Wii is still cheaper than the PS3, considering that to enjoy the Wii is 100 dollars cheaper than trying to enjoy the PS3.

I agree that the PS3 is a great value for the technology it has. The problem is for me and a LOT of people it's technology I have no interest in and can't even use right now. Other than the capacity of the discs, the benefits require HDTV which I don't have and don't plan on having for many years.

I have a $100 TV that I've had for a few years now and before that was one that we'd had for so long the buttons were literally falling off (hey, at least it didn't have a dial). The chances that I'm dropping a couple thousand on an HDTV are about -1000% so all that valuable tech PS3 has would be a waste of money for me.

if ps3 is going to have "streamware" as its method of game buying then i dont think its going to be anything but excessively expencive in the long run. i buy a game becuase i know that if i rent it, its going to cost me a fortune so buying it is cheaper then renting it constantly. i realy do not have fat piles of bills lying around my home to pay for todays game. i dont see how the ps3 will be anything but expencive given everything thats been said so far. maybe this wackjob misread the PR memo?
