For the last, say, six months I have had chronic toothpain. Not just any, but it goes through the side of my face, my tooth, my jaw, and my neck. After research I think it is this:

I have all four wisdom teeth, although in bad shape. On the left side of my face (where the pain is worst) the teeth didn't grow all the way in. They did on the right side, until they both broke in half. Just wanted to get this off my chest, because this sucks. It hurts like hell right now, as I haven't slept in 48 hours and thanks to this I won't be getting any sleep anytime soon.

All I can say is: Hooray for no insurance!

If you are supporting yourself and don't have much income, you might be eligible for medical/dental assistance through the health dept. It might take a while to get enrolled, but it's worth a shot. Have you looked into any reduced-cost dental services/clinics? At the very least they might be able to set up a payment plan should the bill be too much to pay all at once.

There's a pharmaceutical company here that will sometimes pay for all or part of your surgery if you agree to try out a new type of pain medication. I have no idea what's available in your area, so I'm just tossing out ideas.

depending upon where you live, you can find subsidiaries of Delta Dental, that can allow you to make payments for dental service instead of paying all up front.

Its better than dealing with the pain, and atleast the dentist i saw did a really good job.

I guess I'm luckier than most. As for health facilities in my area, I lucked out: there is a place that offers medical and dental services... for free (low income families and individuals of course). Since it is free and the care is limited, I may not get anything more than antibiotics. Which I'm fine with, since that Wiki article states that is what is used for this condition before pulling teeth, if that condition is what I truly have.

I've heard that the free dentist is only there twice a week, but I guess I have nothing to complain about. I should just be lucky that its free. Another side effect of this good luck: you have to take a number. Who knows how long I'd have to wait.
