    Questions and Help needed!

I need help with some problems I'm having.

    1) How do I make the blasted secret doors work!? Do I need an event or something?

    2) How do I make the faces/portraits appear during dialogue?

    3) How do I make the slopes like those on the screenshots on the back of the box? You know the one where the land is sloping towards a lake.

    4) How do I make a shop or inside of a house for that matter?

Here are some answers to your questions.

    1. You need a dungeon placed on a field map. That allows the secret door to work. You can just make a empty field map if you want.

    2. There is an option that you just click to show dialogue portrait. But you have to pick the character with that portrait you want. It is on the right.

    3. You will just have to play around with the options, but it is the smooth and bump, and just decrease the height. The height buttons are the top shoulder buttons. www.rpgmmag.com has the manual incase you don't have it.

    4. That is a different thing. I am not sure you can have one inside a house. But you can just create your own by using events.

      Welcome to the pavilion!
Vonwert answered questions 2 & 3 superbly, but I think I can help you out more with 1 & 4.

      1) To make a secret door work, you have to first, in field layout editor mode, place a secret door (and when you place it you can chose which dungeon it is an extra entrance/exit for). Then in the dungeon creator, you can place and select that secret door as a second exit/entrance to the dungeon.

      4) In the town editor, you can place houses or shops. Once you have placed one(unless it is a decorative house, in which case it has no inside), you can edit the inside of it(in layout mode). The insides of both are preset, but you can add items, characters and events to them.

      Hope that helps-

Thank y'all for the help. Now, I need to know something else: is there for the party to disarm a trap? Also, how do I open doors using levers and switches (by switches I mean the floor plate buttons)?

In addition, how do I have the faces of both characters (the PC and the NPC) appear during a conversation? I got a storyteller event, but I can't figure out how to turn it into an event.

            Welcome back Barnwellknight.

            Regarding the newer questions

A- You can create an item that disarms the traps in the dungeons.
Create an item. Give it the "Special Traits" of "Disarm"

B- Getting a switch to lock and unlock a door can't be done. However, you can create an auto event with the switch as a trigger. In the event code for that auto event, give the player a key to the locked door. That works.

C- You don't need to use a storyteller if all you want to do is get their faces to appear. Just select to have the 2D character appear when you display the message. Anyway, if you want to use storytellers, to get a storyteller to play in an event, in the event code, select "Control," press X, select "Storytellers," select the Storyteller you'd like to play.

You can also give a character an ability (Skill or Magic) that does the same thing. There is a slight problem, however...

When the ability is activated (or in effect or used or whatever) there is a little blue/green icon on the side of the screen (similar to when you use the "encounter down" ability) and until that icon blinks out, you will not take dammage from any traps, or even know that traps were present. If you're setting traps willy nilly just to have them then is prolly ok, but if you have a "trap" that someone alerts your party to (Look out! I know you can't see in the dark, but there's a big hammer hanging from the ceiling!!!) you may feel the need to make it an event, so that the party can diffuse it viz the storyline...
