So how do you deal with calls requesting donations for worthy causes when you can't or just don't want to give? Do you listen to the whole spiel and then figure out a way to politely decline, interrupt to say you're not giving, claim you gave already, or just plain hang up? I usually hang up but I always feel like a jerk when I do. That must be an annoying job to have to call people and get hung up on all the time.

Re: Fund drive phone calls
Nicely hang up.
Unlike the time I messed with the Indian Direct TV salesmen and asked him what adult channels they offered.
"Uh yes sir, lets see, we have the uh, Playboy Channel, Adults and Fantasies, uh...the Playboy Channel....uh...yes, I do have Direct TV myself, there are many adult channels. Sir like I said, we have lets see...Playboy Channel...Sir? We have the Adults and Fantasies, Playboy Channel, and uh...Playboy channel."

Re: Fund drive phone calls
If its a machine I hang up, but if its a person I feel bad doing that. I listen for a little bit then tell them I'm completely broke and can't help... I wish that was a lie.
I had to change accounts. I'm here now - http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/member.php?u=1475

If it's an organization that you already support, tell them that. If they are insistant, then ask to be removed from their mailing/phone list. Legally they have to comply.
I usually tell them that I refuse to give over the phone but I might donate to a local chapter or office.Eat Smello.
