TaleSpin
Darkwing Duck
Well, let's see here. First off, they're back to full sets, so we're not getting a 3-episode disc like they tried pulling with Goof Troop. And, both of them have in large print on the front of the boxes that the pilot episodes are included, something both the Rescue Rangers and DuckTales DVD sets failed to include. Sounds promising, right?
Unforunately, this part of a review has me a bit worried on TaleSpin's pilot:
Actually, I wasn't aware of there being an "edited" version out there, though a later review mentions that, like Darkwing Duck's pilot episodes in the series, the original premier (which I've never seen) has scenes not seen in the 4-part version. So now I know I'm missing out on something that I missed out on because I never caught TaleSpin until it appeared on Disney Afternoon.
Darkwing Duck, in particular, sounds like it serves as a counterpart to the horrid (IMO) Rescue Rangers set, in which not only are there no extras (as is the case for all pre-Gargoyles shows DVD sets), but the episodes are out of order, and worse, the pilot is missing its opening sequence (in which Darkwing captures some crooks on the run while his theme song plays). Even the old VHS version (which I fortunately own) includes the opening.
So it sounds like, aside from including their pilot episodes, Disney is once again giving us half-arsed sets, as if they didn't care about us fans and only wanted our money. But hey, with all the sequels they've been making lately, I'm already under that impression. Don't get me wrong, I'll still buy these, but I'm going to REALLY start hating Disney now. One would've thought that they'd learn their lessons after some of the reviews their last DVD sets recieved. I guess not.
But that reminds me. Both TaleSpin and Darkwing Duck had "banned" episodes (TaleSpin's involving a terrorist attempt, Darkwing's involving Satan). Those were both later episodes, but who's willing to be they'll never be seen again? Gargoyle's "Deadly Force" being included in its DVD set aside.

I don't have the DVD yet, but another Spinner friend tells me it's the four-part edited version
