    Guild Wars?

Yeah, I was thinking of getting this game. Everyon's saying it's pretty good.

Sooo... I have some questions about it...
    • What can you play as?
    • Does it have a monthly cost?
    • What's the combat and gameplay like?
    • What's the plot?
    • Anything else I should know...

I've seen some screenshots, and it looks pretty cool... BTW, I play Runescape, so if you know what that is, and if it's at all similar, feel free to compare.

Here's the ones I can answer:

2: None, you bought the game, just connect.

      Re: Guild Wars?

The way it is set up is like Diablo. If you play on the roleplaying servers, you meet in town to team up (kinda like a chat on Battlenet). Then when you go out to do quests, its your team against the enviroment. You do not play along side other players/teams unless you go on the PvP servers. The number of people youre able to team with depends on you level (which I think sucks). People spam the hell out of the towns and its really difficult to have a conversation with your team members or friends or guild members because the chat interface goes entirely too fast.

Youre only able to carry so many skills at a time and if you want to change up or replace your arsenal, you have to go into town and switch them out.

You are very limited to where you are able to roam in the maps, but the scenery is very pretty.

The char generator is total ****, I think. You will always look exactly like everyone else in your char class, no matter how hard you try to be your own creation.

I find the game play to be a bit slow.

This game is nice to have when you are playing another game that you have to pay for and you need a break. Thats about the nicest thing I can say about it.

      edit:

The plot is ok. Youre bascially trying to save/rebuild a city that was attacked by the Char.

        Re: Guild Wars?

I played Guild Wars for a bit, but I kinda lost interest in it after a while.

I do like the fact that you don't have to worry about kill-stealers and other parties ruining your game experience by training mobs to your camp, because you get your own adventuring server to play in. The only thing you share with other players is the towns, and they're so full of spam you want to do your business quickly and leave, or find a lesser restrained channel.

I haven't tried the PvP, but I hear it's pretty good. There are competitions that happen where player Guilds win prizes and accolades for being the best. I love Jeremy Soule's musical compositions, especially the stuff found in Factions (which I sampled at the ArenaNet website.)

Well, I haven't touched Guild Wars in a while, but the best part is....I'm not paying monthly for it. So I can just get back to it whenever I find the time. I haven't gotten Factions yet, and it's uncertain if I'm going to seek out Nightfall. Nonetheless, I have the utmost respect for Guild Wars.

If you play it, do enjoy it for all its worth.
Despite what you think, I am very, very real.

I'm also kinda wondering what classes there are, and if there are multiple races.

I've dealt with overcrowded chatrooms before, so that's nothing new.

Also, how does the leveling work?

no different races, but several classes (you can combine up to two for each character) So there are man combos, sorta. lol

Not to get on your toes, but yeah, I have some conflicts with your statements.

Umm... Ya, the first 4 missions, the rest is more of a pilgrammige away from the land, then ALOT more happens.

The char generator is total ****, I think. You will always look exactly like everyone else in your char class, no matter how hard you try to be your own creation.
Pretty much true, until you get your armor, then you can dye them and all that stuff. But everyone pretty much look alike, unless you got cool dye colors and people take notice.

I find the game play to be a bit slow.
You mean the missions or the PvP? The missions are rarely slow unless your team sucks, then it's WoW or EQ slow (That is dang slow), and the PvP is pretty fast paced compared to any other MMORPGS.

The number of people youre able to team with depends on you level (which I think sucks).
It's actually the town you are in. Not the level you are.

                Sorry, just nitpicking.

My, more positive, role on GW.
                1. One time payment, just for the CD Key. That's it.
                2. PvP is VERY balanced, You will not find a better PvP out there. (for RPGs)
                3. It actually makes you think! This is a very fun aspect when making neww builds for PvP
                4. Skill is more of a role than Time spent playing.
                5. There are now skill packs you can pay $40 for and unlock all the skills if you don't have the time to unlock them yourself... I personally don't do this but some might.
                6. You will find good and bad people, it's the way in any other Online game.
                7. Each expansion is Stand Alone meaning you can get one and not the other.
                8. I played 18 hours straight during the special event. But I had been depraved of GW for awhile...
                9. You can go through the whole game Solo, if you want, but you don't have to. The henchman system, especially with Nightfall coming out, is VERY NICE.
                10. No monthly fee! Wait I already said that... NO MONTHLY FEE!!!!

                  Well, RD reassured me some.

I'll probably get it tomorrow then. My brother's really looking forward to getting it too. It sounds kinda like my style, especially with the skill-based play. (I hate it how some addicts are only good cause they've played for a while.)

                  BTW, what classes are there?

                      Assassin and Ritualist in Factions.
                      Dervish and Paragon in Nightfall.

But we are speaking of Prophecies...

                      Oh!

BTW there are Primary and Secondary Classes!

                      Example:

                      Necromancer/Elementalist

                      or Warrior/Monk

                      or Ranger/Mesmer

Alot of builds and possibilities in this.

                        Re: Guild Wars?

I wish NCsoft would make some console games. City of Heroes/Villains and Guild Wars are the PC games that interest me the most but I hate playing PC games. Not only the fact that I have a sucky computer but I just don't like playing games with a keyboard and mouse. If they made a console GW or CoH/V I'd be all over it.

Looking through their site I was reading the info on Aion which I'd never even heard of before. It sounds good.
                        What is Aion™?
Aion is the most visually stunning MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) ever made. Cutting-edge graphics redefine your expectations of online role-playing and reveal a world where angels, demons and dragons wage a war that will determine the future of the world.
Your role in this war is pivotal; every action and decision meaningful and important. Fate rests on your shoulders and you determine the evolution of Aion’s story through brutal warfare, brilliant strategy and political power.

                        Control and Transform the World
Aion will transform the way you experience new content. You have the power to trigger world-changing events!
The actions of each player on every individual server will push storylines and quests in new directions. The effect of each unique action will eventually accumulate to trigger new game content such as the opening of new dungeons or the rise of a world completely different to what was there before.
You will create a distinct history and will have your name forever recorded in fame or in infamy.

                        PvPvE
Other online role-playing games have PvE - player versus environment: fighting computer-controlled monsters and PvP – player versus player: human-controlled characters fighting each other.
For the first time in the MMORPG genre, Aion brings these two game features together in an evolving and seamless system. PvPvE manages the complex relationships and alliances between realms, races and guilds; it also controls the mighty Dragons, a non-player faction and a common enemy to all players, regardless of faction.

Well, in the Breath of Fire series, dragons were mainly the good guys.

Guild Wars didn't hold my intrest long. I still have a character on it though.
