The furthest I got to was fighting The End. Then I bought Subsitance, and didn't get very far at all.

If you save at the beginning of battle, turn off the game, and come back much later, he will have died.

you can also take him out on the docks.

oh, no. I wasn't stuck fighting him. I just never got any farther than that.

I didnt like 3 all that much. Was pretty bleh.

Now MGS2, THAT was a game for the ages. ****ing awsome game all the way through.
