    Browser problems...

Whenever I use the internet and try to scroll down its really draggy and not smooth...this only happened after I did an extensive virus scan on my computer...everything else seems to work fine. Also I have done virusscan, and an adaware scan...and I can't seem to get rid of this ad for virus protection off my task bar...any help would be appreciated.

Is it one of those infrared types of mouse?

If so, you may want to re-install your driver. I'm assuming your problem isn't specific to using an internet browser, but to using the mouse in general.

What would scrolling have to do with his mouse?

Everytime I have scrolling problems, it's video card related.

              Re: Browser problems...

I've had scrolling problems where the scrolling was choppy whenever I used the center button on the mouse to scroll in a given direction. It was the driver for the mouse that caused the problem.

He may have had a similar problem.

You should try cleaning it, even if that isn't the source of the problem. And check your video card as well as Caciss hinted at. As top finding a driver for it(if it has one or uses one), put the name and model of your mouse into google, and search. "xxxx yyyy" and "driver", with xxxx being the brand of your mouse and yyyy being the model number.

That's the thing. You don't. My suspicion is that one of your device drivers got corrupted or modified after you did a virus scan. But it may be something as simple as your pointer speed not being set high enough(although the way you described your problem, I doubt that is the case). Or your mouse may have started to crap out on you, just after you did this virus scan, by coincidence. It could be any number of things, but I think the most likely culprit is a device driver.

                      Re: Browser problems...

You can, you just have to do a little troubleshooting. Search for your mouse driver, re-install it. If that doesn't fix the problem? Re-install your video card driver. So on and so forth.

Or if you using IE, you could stop doing that, and get a better browser like Firefox or Opera. But yeah I would recommend doing the stuff Terr suggested, in addition to not using IE.

Also you might want to turn off smooth scrolling (which will be buried somewhere in the options of your browser). That can sometimes lead to choppiness (ironic I know).

As for the ad, depends on what virus scanning software you have. If you're tired of paying for a virus scanner, or using a main stream one like Mcaffe or Norton, google for AVG and download that. If it's a little message window though I would recommend stopping the messenger service, by opening services (should be Start Menu>Run then type services.msc). Then look for Messenger and right click on it and choose disable. Note this has nothing to do with MSN.

Maybe he's a deviantART user. So many forum posts there involve "Do you use IE? Switch to Firefox." It's apparently spreading.

                              Re: Browser problems...

I have many good reasons to not like IE. It has been the bane of my web design career to be sure. Any good web designer will not like IE because it's standards compliance sucks, and it can't even measure properly, since it apparently doesn't know how long a pixel is. Then there is the whole keeping your internet history forever, unless you boot in DOS mode to delete the Content.IE5 folder and the index.dat file, which are completely hidden in normal explorer (you have to Explore to see them).

Plus IE doesn't have tabs which I personally think are the best way to browse the internet, though people disagree. So my not liking IE is not without good reason, and most people use it because it's what comes with their OS, either because they know of no others, or they don't want to take the time to get another one. Plus it's rediculous how many security flaws it has, and IE security flaws are fixed slower than other browsers. Oh yeah and no transparent PNG support (which is the only image format to support translucency, and also is Portable Network Graphic).

So yeah, IE sucks, and people who target just IE suck, because thy're too lazy to make standard compliant websites, which will work on all browsers that support the standard fully (which is really Opera at the moment, but Firefox comes a hell of a lot closer than IE).

Alright I think I'm done. Oh and my site has a nice disclaimer for IE users now .

Hopefully you fix your problem Geno, post if you don't.
