I managed to pick up Dragon Quest Rocket Slime and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon for the DS today. Both of them reservations from months past.
And so far, I like them!
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is a throwback to a lot of Chun Soft's dungeon crawlers. I used to play Fatal Labyrinth for the Genesis, and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2 for the PsOne back in the day so it was nice to get back into it. At the start of the game, you are asked a series of questions that will determine what Pokemon you'll turn into. My path has lead me to the role of a Mudkip. Not a bad choice considering Water Pokemon are my favorite types. From then on in, you choose a partner. I chose Torchic.
There's an interesting story to be told in the game, but from this point, you do a lot of missions and explore dungeons. You can recruit new Pokemon to join your Rescue team as the game progresses. I had some issues with the controls somewhat but the game held true for me. Overall, a worthy addition to my growing DS library.
Dragon Quest Rocket Slime is an interesting little gem of a game, where you take on the role of a slime. You basically use your whole body to attack enemies and things of that nature. Later on, you get to engage in tank battles. I haven't gotten that far just yet however.
That brings my DS collection to about 10 games, with more on the way.
Anyone interested in either of these two titles, or both, I encourage you to give them a shot.
