Does anyone here consider NOCDs piracy? I have to admit, I use them because I own a laptop, and carrying 100 CDs around is kinda hard. I mean, if you own a game and just not want to use CDs is it piracy?
If I have a legit copy of a game then I'm not against having a back up copy on my computer.
I feel the same about other stuff, for example, my old scratched up music CDs. Since I purchased a copy back in the day, I don't think it's wrong for me to D/L a crisp copy of the same album.
perfectly legal to create backups of software you own. just not legal to let other people use those backups.
Well not perfectly legal, thanks to some ambiguity in the law. Like I've said in the past it is perfectly legal to own one backup copy (and only one), which you only use in the event the original gets damaged. However it is illegal to bypass copyright protection on things, so there is the conundrum, since it's legal to make a backup copy, but illegal to bypass copy protection, where does that put the law in this case.
And for most games you should not need nocd hacks, if you have a virtual CD drive, and a good 1:1 cd copy program.
Of course there is also Direct2Drive services now, so you don't NEED to by the CD to have the game.
.iso files are OK, but if the game is large (or multiple CDs) it can take more than a gigabyte to store. NOCDs are about 15-100KB, My external Harddrive needs to be pluged in, so that really makes it almost null to even have .iso files unless it's for backup.

Well you could always get more harddrive space. I mean harddrive space is like $0.50 a GB now, or probably less. That's about the same as the price per GB for a DVD at the moment.
True but you can make external harddrives by just buying an external exclosure, instead of paying the insane prices for the non external ones. And USB 2.0 is pretty fast. So while a bit more expensive still not too bad. Would be a bit of a pain to lug around, but for home use it would be fine.

I, personally, use NOCDs because I want to play games and etc. without is being plugged in.
I got a 149 gig External Harddrive for $70 at Buy.com. It WAS supposed to be 160 but alas, still a great deal when you think of what Dell tried to sell me (40 gig for $150).
