    Problem with Excel

I have microsoft Excel, yet when I went to go use it today, whenever I entered a number, it came out like this:

    I enter 12

    I get 1.2E-19

    I enter 3

    I get 3E-20

    I enter 45

    I get 4.5E-19

Anybody know why this is happening? Whatever I do I cannot get it to go back to the original format. I've tried reformatting the cells, reseting them to "General" in the number category tab, and so on but nothing works.

Just kidding. I really don't know. I use Openoffice myself.

So what happens when you put the number type to "General" or "Number"?

It sounds like you're just stuck in scientific notation (divided by 10^20 for some reason). If you put it into "number" format, do you still get that notation?

If I put it in number it comes out like this:

            Enter: 12

            Result: 0.00

            Enter: 57474

            Result: 0.00

It could be a macro... I have no idea how one would've been enabled though.

Restart excel. When the program starts, if you're opening a file that's using macros, it will warn you. Do you get a warning? Also, are you using a mac or PC version?

I'm guessing if you bumped the decimal places up to 20 for that "12" entry, you'd get "0.00....12". Why, I don't know.

Edit: Does it do this for new files, a certain existing file, or all files?

I'm using a PC. BTW, what do you mean by restart? Just the program? Or the computer?

I meant the program. The point being to see whether or not it tells you macros are being used.
