Tell me if you ever find the amnesiac princess and her con man boyfriend.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."
I seriously suggest that you go and read as much about the game as you
can. This game is like a second job. I'm not kidding. Aftera certain point it's
almost impossible to "play casually" and make any sort of advancements.
Are there any MMORPGs that aren't like that because that's the main thing that turns me off about the genre. You can't just play how you want, there's always a RIGHT and WRONG way to do things and all these stats and crap you have to micromanage that I could care less about. Whenever I read the forums of MMORPGs it sounds more like they're talking about filing your taxes or something than a game. It's all stats and number crunching and pre-planning and blahbiddy blah and it just makes me want to stay far way. So are there any MMOs that let you play how you want without having to figure out the right way to play your role?
World of Warcraft is one of few MMOs that are suited for everyone--casual and hardcore.
Once I was an FFXI player like many of you--a Mithra on the Odin server. The furthest I got was Level 40 RDM. Unfortunately, time constraints forced me to quit.
I'm not going to say FFXI is a bad game. It's my fault because I didn't take the time to learn the ropes nor did I cultivate my skills like I should have. In essence, I failed to be a good player. But the experience was worthwhile when it lasted. How you choose to enjoy and appreciate FFXI is entirely up to you.
Bastok I guess, I didn't pay much attention. Chances are I will just casually play, as I do with most games. You may say I can't do it, but I will enjoy it nonetheless. I chose a tarutaru warrior for the sole fact that it WOULD be a little awkward.
*shrugs* It can't be that much different than every other game. If ya wanna be a slightly weaker character, you have to level up more than others would. Is there anything wrong with that?
The only thing I miss from FFXI is all the logging I used to do in Jugner forest. I also enjoyed beating up all the walking trees there. I raised my woodworking and bonecraft skills (A-huhuhuhuh) so I could make fireworks. The messing around parts were usually more entertaining than the missions/battles.
Yeah, back when I played star wars galaxies it was like 7/8s messing around and playing Star Wars: The Sims and 1/8 actually doing stuff. I liked the social emphasis on the game but now it sucked.
Hope FFXI works out for you but if not PSU is coming october 24th

It's different from traditional Final Fantasies.
You can level solo as high as 10 or 12, but after that, a willing party of other players is required. So long as you find friendly players, you should do fine.
The higher you get, the more difficult it becomes, but I believe you can conquer those difficulties with a lot of patience, a lot of perservence and, most importantly, a lot of time.
Hey since we are on the subject, what would a good class be for the Tarutaru's? I want to be one when I get the game, so I can impress some of my friends. Also, the things are too damn cute to resist! I was thinkin' Samurai/Black Mage.
