    My first background.

Not complete, and using a few tutorials I found online, I created my first ever landscape. The composition is odd because it's in a comic, but it basically started out as this :

and ended up as this :

I do understand that the landscape is not very realistic. I do have a single light-source, and it's also a dream sequence. I mostly wanted to give an idea of a mars-like surface that was compacted sand dunes in the form of mountains, water like blood, and soft pink/red mist that gives it that dream-like quality. This version so far is a bit too bright for me, and the water kinda sucks but the only other tutorials I found made it look TOO artificial. So...Here it is.

The end product will be divided into panels, with a jet-stream/motion blurr of a falling object that will splash into the left part of the last panel. There will also be an inset panel in the final panel of a view of looking up from underwater.
(It's still a WIP, please forgive the hastiness of it)
    Any suggestions?

That is very well done. I like the texture of the mountains and lake. And the sky is very good looking.

      Very Marsy.

All it needs is Tars Tarkus and John Carter!

Where's your mars probe? No mars landscape is complete without it! =^O

It occurred to me that you may want Constructive Criticism!

The mountains look great, but the big ones could use more texture.

          Nice sky!

The ground did not look very wet until I realized it was supposed to, then it clicked.

I have no clue about how to make it more "fluid" though.

I may look for one of those tutorials... they look fun!

          MOO!

You needed a tutorial for this?

I actually used a tutorial for the sky, the water, and the clouds. I'm not massively proficent in photoshop when it comes to making things realistic, I just do the coloring. I also checked out some random tutorial on coloring mountains, and kinda psudo-used it for how I colored mine. the water still needs a lot of work, but unfortunately, I don't have the skill to paint it well on my own, and all the realistic ways of making water make it look too artificial and don't fit with the coloring. But I shall work on the water and the texture of that back mountain.

              Thanks for the crits.

First of all.....really cool! I've seen some of the things you've made with space themes before, and this one is good as well. I would have no clue how to make something like that.

The only suggestion I have is to maybe have more of a reflection of that center mountain range (the almost white mountains) in the water. That might help make it look more convincing. Not that I have any idea how to go about doing that.

                Good job.

I'd have to see how the background fits in with the panels and illustration.
