How could an author write something so horrific and disturbing? I can imagine a young child reading this, and freaking out!

and look at Conrad's legs! they're so tiny! how do we know that the tailor just isnt trying to keep him from producing small-legged offspring? I mean, it makes a note of how long the tailor's legs are, it's survival of the fittest.
