I obtained a free sega saturn, which I am not giving away. Stop asking me to.

From the same aunt that gave me sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles free, now comes a free model 2 saturn.

    I'm so happy.

How long will a CR2032 battery last in the system? Memory cards for the thing are still obscenely expensive, so the cheap little batteries are my only option.

EDIT: People will not quit PMing me over my joke title, so I changed it.

Well I believe Lithium batteries normally last around 5 years. I know the ones in computers do (though I think some last even longer). Depending on how it was put on the system (solder vs a clip) it shouldn't be too hard to replace if it goes bad. Though I'm not sure what happens if the CMOS clears on a game system.

We had to replace the lithium batteries when we got our Saturn. It was more of a pain than I expected, we had to open it up and everything. Most how-to guides said that they last about two years.

What I wanna know is, if I have to replace them again, will that reset the memory and my precious NiGHTS Into Dreams data?

I would get a memory card, but that thing is 40 dollars. OUCH?!?

It seems like the battery on here is easy to get out. theres one in it (dead) but it looks like it just slides in, and clips into place.

I'd like to know that too. VMUs used CR2032 batteries too, but the batteries in those could die and you'd still have your data.

EDIT: Found a faq that answers this:
You can also carefully change the battery while the system is turned
on. The manual says don't do this, but that's just for your safety
(very small chance you could shock yourself or something). The
battery is out of the circuit when the system is on so it's safe as
far as the system is concerned.

I got a Saturn with Nights, Bust-a-Move, Magic Knight Rayearth, Die Hard Arcade, Duke Nukem 3D, Sonic R, Last Bronx, Fighting Vipers, one more I can't remember, a standard controller, and 2 3D Pad Controllers, all for about $70.

Not a bad deal. Not GREAT, but not bad. Magic Knight Rayearth seems to go for about $50 in "used condition" on eBay though.
              Keep the change.

Well yeah, this is similar to what happens in battery back up games. So since all your data is stored in DRAM, it needs constant power to keep the data. I was going to recommend leaving it plugged in, but also knew that isn't entirely safe. So this way while the battery is out the power is keeping the RAM powered and your data there. But your data will stay for a small amount of time after you unplug it, and the lithium battery is dead, as it takes a while for the power to leak out. How long that is would be really hard to figure out, so best not to risk it, as it could be a second, it could be a couple of minutes.

As for checking if the battery is dead, probably best to take it out once every couple of years while the system is plugged in, and check it. Not sure if the power has to be on to the system, as I know my NES will keep my zelda games as long as the Zelda game is in the system and it's plugged in.

                      I third the misleading title.

Well, I'll have to sixth that.

Here I was hoping for a chance to get a free automobile.
