    1 Question and 1 Tip

Hi!I'm new to this sight but not to the exciting world of RPG Maker 1,2,and 3!I just got RPG Maker 3 and was wonderin....
On the field editor where you put in enemy encounter, does the "Ocean" Field mean the tiny beaches I get when I level the land with the water?Or does it mean the oceans that you made yourself which you can't go in-.-

Also I found a way to make games with 5+party members but its easier with 5-10 because it requiers making a dungeon and dungeons can only have 10(Dumb limitations)no matter how many floors you have. Also, you'll have to make a copy of each of the characters that isn't your main so that could interfere if you wanted to have about 85 different people. Now,what you do is first make a copy of every character(except mainmain character)and have your dungeon with 4-9 LOCKED DOORS!!!!Now,make a key for each locked door. What you do now is when you gain your fifth character, create an event that gives you the key to 4 of the characters. When you gain your 6th,give your character a key to 5 of the characters and so on.Now,when you enter the dungeon, make an event that removes all party members except your hero.Make a Yes-No event on each character so they ask you if you want them to join you.I haven't tested this but I was hoping I could do it for a game I was making that had 12 playable characters.

Ocean is for the ocean. Any land that is near sea level is automatically converted to beach.

And I'm not sure what you mean with multiple party members. Are you talking about more than 4 taking part in battle? That can't be done. Having extra party members in reserve, though, can be and has been done.

      Welcome Piehater,

RE: OCEAN - and if you have a battle that is set up to take place in the "ocean" area, the way it gets triggered is by walking up to the water and getting that red sign that means you can't walk on the water. At that point between the land and the water is where the battle is triggered, at least from what I remember about messing around with that.

Piehater, my Answers to Basic Questions thread has the answer (actually a hyperlink to the answer, but I don't want to look for the thread) regarding the mulitple player characters (although, like Dray said, only 4 at one time.) You'll find it stickied in this forum.

Thanks for the ocean thing.I thought that was just some useless command. And On my tip,I wanted to actually find a creative way to have a game with 12 members but only have 4 party members so I thought, why not just make a dungeon where when you walk into the dungeon about 5 steps,an event takes place that automatically removes all party members and puts them behind a door.Dungeons could only hold 10 so I had to be even more creative and place them in houses that required locks to enter.Same in the dungeon area,I needed to make keys that let you open a door to a character.I sorta goofed with the wording on the hint when I posted yesterday.....Also,I had to create events so when you gained a characters, you would get a key to their home/tiny room in dungeon.
Anyways......What I did was create a dungeon, create an event you could not pass by without activating that removes all members except main hero,Created keys for each room where you find a party member you can obtain, and created events where when you talk to them, they join your party! So basically,I messed up on the wording(I hate my brain). The reason for having 12 characters in the first place for anybody who wanted to know,I was creating a game based on Zodiac Signs and each of the 12 characters would be "gifted" with the powers of each one with the main character being the holder of Capricorn because that is my Zodiac Sign xD,In a way, collecting the characters is like Radiata Stories, only there aren't 177 characters, you can actually control your allies, and you can't move around in a battle field.

Yeah, Pie, what I'm saying is the dungeon isn't nessacary. You could talk to cakes to get your party members, with the same results.

Or even set up a single event where you get to customize your party, check for the topic I posted for an example, it's also listed in Hito's thread.

You don't need to bother with the locks, either. Just create a room with all the characters inside, each with 2 modes. Mode 1 is the "not in party" mode, and should leave the character model invisible. Mode 2 is the "in party" mode, displaying the character and allowing you to add it to the party.

Bear in mind I've had trouble with similar instances, adding characters to the party while they're standing right in front of you. It seems like it's hard for the system to process, so you may want to create a standard event for each character, as Hito suggested, rather than placing the character in the room.

Using a single event may save you some memory (And I've had instances where I've gone through 10% in a single hour). However, it may not be as good an idea if you're planning on a non-linear approach to gathering the party.
