New artistic style (for me)

I've been messing around with some new styles and techniques, and I liked the way this wallpaper turned out. It's simple, yes, but I like simplicity and it was actually much harder to accomplish than I would have originally thought. I'm working on a few others, but my hands are a little bit more full than I would have expected. What do you think?

Pretty groovy.
Only the sand is a bit hard to read against the sunset, perhaps it could use a dark outline like the other objects.

The penguins look awesome. I really like how you did them.

I really dig the sky too.

Ditto on Gus' suggestion about an outline around the sand, though. Also, for some reason the airbrushed divide between the sand and the water at the bottom of the island bugs me...I think it should be a sharp line like what you've used throughout the rest of the picture, because as it is now, it seems a bit out of place.

Yeah, the gradiant sand looks silly.

I dunno, I kinda like the gradient sand. I don't know a lot about art, but it seems like a dark outline might make it look like it's just a block of land floating on top of the water. The gradient kinda makes it looks like a beach, where the sand kinda fades out to water.

I'd recomend texturing the sand slightly, just with a few specks of a darker shade maybe. It'd probably help a lot.

Was this inspired by Madagascar, by any chance?

Actually, no, I've neevr seen Madagascar. I'm just going for simplicity, the penguins were made from a combination of deformed primatives, all circles and elipses either cut or reshaped. Similar to the lion in this one I did tonight.

OMG!! PENGUINS FTW! I love this new style. I have a friend who would melt over the lion, but I LOVE the penguins! It's so adorable and wonderful. Very nice style!

Edit - I now have the penguins as my desktop..you do not mind do you?

Absolutely not, that's what they were made for! I'm flattered actually

I'm hoping to get better so that I can do more complex locations/animals ect, while still keeping the style simple... We'll see what I can come up with.
