Are Pokemon cards still worth anything?

I must have blown well over $200 on those damn things trhough grades 7-9.

I remember going to the fleamarket, and there being nothign but an entire row of old fat guys selling etremely overpriced individual cards to little kids, making heaps of money. I also remember seeing holofoil charazards going for $100.

I never got one of those, but Ive got a binder full of pokemon cards with doubles, and variants, or like 6 of the same card, and almost the first 150. I even wnet to see that damn movie a couple of times to get all the movie promo cards. I even remember one guy selling some strange japanese pikachu cards, and saiid he drove all the way to seatle and back for some convention to grab a bunch of these cards, and wouldnt sell them for less than $30 each.

So would they still be worth anything?

I also want to know the answer to this question, 'cause I just found an album full of 'em in my closet.

I don't think they're worth much, considering that they are not rare or highly sought after anymore. The overpricing then was mostly due to the craze.

I mean, think of all the surplus cards kids have in their closets ever since Pokemon went cold.

They probably aren't worth much. If they've been handled a lot, even less. Basically, if you didn't take them from the package and put them directly into a plastic sleeve/case, you're boned.

The only really rare ones are the mint condition first edition cards. There might be a few other worthwhile cards (some JP holos, promos), check eBay to get a good idea on pricing.

I got about 10 pounds worth of them. Nothing after 150 except ~150 cards.

becuase of the chinese market tends to flood ours with ripoffs and multiples, they probaly are worthless, even more so becuase the craze is dead. pops totaly fell flat, good thing i never got either.

magic the gathering cards are one of the few sets that acualy still trade. baceball cards also sell half decent if you have older cards.

was pokemon worth anything to begin with? burry those things in your closet and make sure they dont leave till your 80, then sell them or burn them.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!
Card Three is released! You can find it here!

Re: Are Pokemon cards still worth anything?

the pokemon card game is still going quite strongly. not at the same level it was when it started, but its still alive and well.

lots of card games are doing very well right now, not just magic. games that cater to younger players (like yu-gi-oh and pokemon, for example) are doing better than magic if you look at how many people are playing. magic alienated younger players long ago. you cant get into the game anymore without spending a small fortune beforehand.

It's true. Legend of the Five Rings, in contrast, is making a comeback by releasing a lot of previous rares as commons, thus reducucing the price of them, and allowing newcomers into the game easier. Magic.. is wearing itself out very quickly.

The problem with some of us with Pokemon cards now is, didn't they make it so you can't use the original cards in official games anymore?

I've stopped buying Yu-gi-oh! cards mainly because the only person I was able to play with went across country. So now it isn't even worth buying them.

The problem with pokemon cards is that they printed 50 billion of them, which means the majority of the cards won't ever be worth much. The same thing happened in the early 90's with comics. People were hoarding first issues and those damn gimmick covers (that were EVERYWHERE) because they were sure all of it would be worth hundreds of dollars in a few years. Too bad the companies were churning out tons of copies, ensuring that the 90's muck is still clogging up comic boxes today.

There are some exceptions, but anything that's mass produced like that isn't going to be worth much in the long run. You're better off investing in comic or animation art. It's something that's rare enough to garner attention from fans and still retains a fairly steady market value.
