What game critics do you trust?

I honestly don't know who to trust anymore...there's really no game critic I can find that reflects my opinion accurately. I just bought PSP Ghouls N Ghosts and I love it, but it's getting absolutely trashed by a few sites. Then there are abortions like Metroid Prime and mediocre games like New Mario, and I can't quite trust anyone when it comes to that either. Another prime example is Dead Rising! It's mostly gotten in the 8 range, but hell, it's the best 360 game I've played so far and I'd rank it up there with Resident Evil 4. The sad part is...(and I'm gonna get flamed for this) I probably agree with the reviews from X-Play. I usually check gamerankings.com for averages, but even that can be decieving.

So, is there any site or magazine out there that you trust?

Zelda, Castlevania, and Metroid are my favorite games, so I'd say I probably agree mostly with Parish.

I gave up on trusting game reviews because of games like Monster Hunter. I don't think I've seen any good reviews of that game but it's great. Then games that have just as many or more problems get high scores. I read the reviews for the info but ignore the opinion. The only way to know if you'll like a game is demos and rentals.

It's like this, G. Really I only trust very negative reviews. Like if a game comes out and all the reviews are saying it's broken and crap I'm going to trust it's broken. Anything that averages from upper 6 to 10 is usually a safe bet.

I just look at screenshots and/or rent it. That suits me just fine.

I stopped renting games when they wanted to charge me more than $3 to do it.

Good point. The place here is charging over $7 now for 5 days. $1 less for 2 days. You only have those two choices for how long you have it.

Last game I rented, for that much, was Dirge of Cerberus. Luckily I beat the game in the time I rented it, so it made up for the money. I'm in no hurry to buy it now.

Parish, though I don't always agree with him, I trust his unqiue opinion. Game Critics is rarely off. EGM is good in a middle of the road kinda way. And I enjoy reading Play for thier blind enthusiasum, even though I hardly ever agree with their reviews. I'm sure they're going to give Xenosaga III a 10.

As for me, I use gamespot.com and just see why it got it's score. I have different tastes then most, so I just note the score and read the review to see what I would think of it.

There is only one person who has almost the same taste in RPG's as me, and that is Jeremy Dunham with IGN. he reviews mostly RPG's, and i find that we usually have similar tastes.

As far as other games go, i usually look at a few reviews, or try to play a demo before buying.

jeremy parish. been a fan of his ever since he first started toastyfrog, and was rather shocked that the same person who once did comical recreations of evangelion using tiny little thumbnail images created 1up.com.

I dont trust X play at all. why? their reviews are never written by the hosts, but rather a dozen or so different writers that you will never see on-screen (one of them has a blog online where he regularly calls morgan webb his puppet), and the reviews are written for entertainment value alone.

                          X-Play is pizza ****.

I go with Parish and EGM as well. I take a look at Play every now and then just to see if I can figure out what they put in their water over there.

I don't understand the question. Why would I base my decisions on someone else's opinion? I usually just go, "That looks like a neat game, I think I'll buy that."
