New Mario DS + Shadow of the Colossus (Gaming woes)

I played FFXI for so long, on such a regular basis... it's as if I've forgotten how to play other games.

None of the games in any of my game cabinets appeal to me. For the past 4 days I've found myself thumbing through them for 20+ minutes, unable to find anything. I went to EB and browsed for an hour, I went to Wal-Mart and browsed for 30 minutes... couldn't find anything new that appealed to me either.

Trying to get back into RPG Maker but not sure how that's going to work. I've had the strangest urge to replay Final Fantasy 7, but even that I'm not too keen on doing. I was thinking of re-activating my XBox Live account for Halo 2... and I also have MechAssault and Phantom Dust... but I suck at everything except Halo, and I don't know enough people online to play it.

Anyone else have been through a slump like this? It's been my favorite hobby my entire life, and this isn't the first time I've been unable to find something to play.

What do you all recommend? I've got GC, PS2, XBox, and DS. The New Super Mario Bros. for DS looks pretty fun, was thinking of that. I realize this isn't too specific without a look into what kind of games I like, but I don't feel like typing out my games and asking what to add to it.

have you played Phoenix Wright or Trauma Center yet? If not I would get one of them. They are very addictive and can keep you busy for a week or 2.

      Killer7, for GC preferably.

For $9.99 you will either hate it or it will become one of your favorite games

      TAKE THE GAMBLE

You know what gives you gaming woes? Playing too many RPGs. I'm there right now. I'm sick of 'em. No more experience, no more stats, no more GOD DAMN NUMBERS. I was between SaGa Frontier and Arc the Lad II, and now I don't want to see either of them ever again.

That's why I started Killer7 at all. I still think it's dumb as hell, but at least it's not an RPG!

It's also why I replayed Zone of the Enders 2.

If you have a friend and 10$ each to spare, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks is a damn fun game.

Yeah. I'd prescribe beat-em-ups and shooters for this kind of funk.

Also, go for New Super Mario Bros.

I used to go in funks like this when I played games regularly. I would play regularly, then I would get bored with them for like 2 weeks to a month. Now I don't really play games much anymore. Unless somethings big is out, I'll just pick up my DS and play something simple and fun like NSMB, and Castlevania DoS every once in a while.

I've got Killer 7 on PS2... it's my friends, but it's here. I couldn't play it, couldn't get in to it.

I had heard that Shaolin Monks's only good quality was the level in the demo, and that the rest of the game was shoddy. But then later on when I looked into it again, I saw nothing but good things about it.

New Super Mario Bros... I've beaten Super Mario World and Mario 3 more times than I can count, and this looks fun as hell.

Here are some are the games I was looking into (some because of price + wanting, some because of just wanting):

New Super Mario Bros. (DS - Want it)
Ape Escape 3 (PS2 - Own the first two)
Burnout Revenge (PS2 - Own Takedown)
                Soul Calibur III (PS2 - $19.99)
                MK: Shaolin Monks (PS2 - $19.99)
                Doom 3 (Xbox - $12.99)
Jade Empire (XBox - Limited Edition $12.99)
                MechAssault 2 (XBox - $17.99)
                Republic Commando (XBox - $19.99)
Wave Race Blue Storm (GC - $9.99)
FF: Crystal Chronicles (GC - $9.99)

Despite all of these being reasonably priced, I just couldn't manage to pick one out. I'm not sure what the rut is, but it's there.

I tried WoW for a bit and couldn't get into it, I'm semi-waiting on PSU to arrive. I tried playing a little PSO for old times sake, WarCraft III, StarCraft, Diablo 2... nothing works. I've got so many games on so many systems I haven't beaten... games where I'm 80% or more into the story, and finishing it would be a simple task... and can't seem to find a game I want to play. Maybe this slump just means that what I'm looking for isn't a game? Eh, I dunno. I'd post a list of what games I had, but I'm sure no one here would care to read it just cause I can't find a game.
                Keep the change.

How do you feel about the Jak & Daxter series? I highly suggest it.

I agree with Rick, but i'd probably go with the Ratchet and Clank series, i think it is just a bit better. you could possibly pass on ratchet 1, but 2, 3, and 4 are awesome!

I feel you Smurv, I'm about in the same boat only I still play FFXI.

You can also try returning to classics that you liked or never played. I bought an old Sega Genesis and about 6-7 games for it for under $30, some good fun was had with that.

If you have a gameboy, pick up a copy of Metroid II if you haven't played it yet. I HIGHLY recommend it, and still consider it on par with Super Metroid.
                            ...and that's why.

I consider Ape Escape 3 of fantastic quality; in gameplay, art, and all other departments. It's a little short (20+ hours), yet very worth it.

On the other hand, I'm surprised at how much I did not like the New SMB. Not that I dislike it, but it's too much similar to the previous SMBs for my current taste (loved them back then... and yes, I know, why did I buy it?) But, you may like it.

P.S. November is going to be insane...
