    Other RTS

    All this starcraft craziness has got me interested in other real time strategy games. While buying Brood War, I noticed a bundle of C&C RTS games but passed when I noticed a FPS was included as well. Now I know of the games such as WarCraft, C&C, Age of Empires etc but I'm wondering how are they?

    Are they any good in light of starcraft? Should I get them? How is online play (is there anything comparable to bnet for nonblizzard games)?

          I don't know, I don't really play many RTS. Which might expain my SC suckiness.

                Im not sure about TA. Im kinda turned off by its looks and this-

                The artificial intelligence of computer-controlled players in Total Annihilation is often considered one of its weakest aspects. The computer player, for instance, cannot detect what types of units are feasible for a given map and will produce as many land and sea units as can be fit into available space, which often results in humorous scenarios such as desert islands packed tight with tanks and infantry and small ponds full of battleships.

                  Europa 1400 is a VERY nice change in pace in the RTS genre! I suggest you check it out =)

                    Because the game is old the AI kinda sucks, but there are things called Mods that make the computer smarter, even impossible somtimes.

                    The game is VERY GOOD, don't be turned off because it aged.

                    Oh, and I can't wait for the sequel Supreme Commander.

                      Two of my friends are into TA and they've had issues with the enemy AI as well, but they're not complaining because usually those issues involved the enemy doing really stupid things.
                      The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

                        Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and Age of Empires are OK, they're exactly alike. But only downside is that each civilization is almost exactly the same. Very little individuality, unlike Starcraft.

                          Speaking as a person that played AoE2: Age of Kings religiously for like 2 years I can tell you that it's a stellar game, I'd honestly put it far above SC in terms of strategy. Just charging with giant masses of the same unit will usualy lead to you having you ass handed to you.

                          Also, the "little individuality" only exists in the low levels of play, once you understand the game mechanics each civilization plays quite differently, The Huns? Only civilization that doesn't have to build houses and also has bonuses to cavalry and a unique unit that does insane damage to buildings, they play how they should, a highly mobile raiding force. But if you tried to play the Teutons that way you'd get your ass handed to you because they're a defensive civ that requires a long buildup before releasing a huge wave of their teutonic knights backed by light cavalry. I could go on and on about the differences.
