Simpsons Season Eight

I received the eighth season of the Simpsons in the mail on Friday. While I definitely think it is a worthy season of the Simpsons, it is easy to tell that the series was starting to get stale at that point. The laughs are fewer and farther between; more and more jokes are getting recycled; and some episodes are nearly unwatchable. One unwatchable episode is The Twisted World of Marge Simpson. What a crappy episode. The Old Man and the Lisa is also pretty lame. On the flipside, some of my favorite episodes are from this season, including my all-time favorite: The Springfield Files. Homer's Enemy also ranks really high up there, IMO. I also really like You Only Move Twice. Hank Scorpio kicks ass. Oh, and almost forgot about Homer vs. The Eighteenth Amendment. Another very solid episode.

Overall, I'd give Season Eight of the Simpsons 8/10. I consider it the last very good season of The Simpsons. In fact, I'm not even sure if I'll order Season Nine when it is released. Man, do the stories become outrageously bad at that point.

I love the Larry Burns episode, and the Hank Scorpio one kinda goes without saying... Frank Grimes is another great one-shot character.

I didn't think the pretzel episode was that bad, honestly.

I need to get this.

I actually sorta like the pretzel episode. Especially when the pretzels kill Whitey Ford ("whitey whackers")

Season 8 was still really funny, and You Only Move Twice is in my top 5 episodes of all time. IMO at that time the show was starting to have signs of age but was still very funny.

The Whitey Whackers and the Asian guy in the white suit are the only parts of the pretzel episode that make me laugh. You'd think an episode with the Mafia would be better than that.

Well, I got a copy of this today. I forgot this season has one of my least favorite episodes of all time: The Simpsons Spin-off Showcase. It was tough sitting through that the first time, so I don't think I'll be watching that one again.

It makes up for it with the aforementioned shows and the Space Coyote and Poochie episodes.

I can tolerate the Simpsons Spin-off Showcase. I kind of really like the Wiggum P.I. part, and the Love-matic Grandpa is OK. It's the last part that makes me want to vomit.
