I went outside to smoke a cigarette just now (I use a computer at the community college computer lab) and just saw some derelict-looking homeless guy across the street take some trash from his bag and throw it in the sewer grate even though there was a trash can right next to the sewer grate. Then, the downtown area I live in has potted plants hanging around town to make the area more attractive, and the guy pulls a big chunk off of one of the plants and proceeds to throw it in the sewer grate. Then, as a capper, he pulls garbage out of the trash can, and walks down to the river and throws it in the river. I finished my cigarette and went back inside, as much as I would have liked to say something to him. End of story.

Re: America the Beautiful...
I live in Seattle in the "evergreen state" and am sorry to say that we get much of the same thing. I think such behavior can more often be found in people who don’t pay taxes, don't work for a living and have a sort of welfare mentality, that the government exists to serve them, that the city is there for them, that nature exists to be a toilet for them, and therefore they can do with it however they please. It might also be an example of poor self esteem, for if they think that the world belongs to them and that the world owes them a favor, and yet if they don’t even take care of themselves, how can they be expected to take care of the environment in which they live?
Totally alien to me. I just can't relate.http://www.brandonMdennis.com

Funny you mention smoking and littering in the same story seeing as there are millions of cigarette butts littered all over the world.Originally posted by PerversionI went outside to smoke a cigarette just now (I use a computer at the community college computer lab) and just saw some derelict-looking homeless guy across the street take some trrash from his bag and throw it in the sewer grate even though there was a trash can right next to the sewer grate. I love being in a minority!
And I'm guessing that a larger percentage smoke substances other than tobacco...Last edited by Perversion; 08-16-2006, 08:46 PM.

Re: America the Beautiful...
I bought a pack of cigarettes when I turned 18, actually I had someone else buy them for me, I smoked maybe 5 of them, gave most away, lost the last third of the pack found it months later and threw it away. Cigarettes just didn't do anything for me. I haven't bothered to try smoking anything else. Or drinking, snorting, shooting, popping, dropping, or freebasing anything for that matter. Also, I'm not entirely sure what freebasing is, but I think it's a drug thing.
Aaaanywho, the litter here in Charleston is just insane. There's just not a spot of ground that isn't covered with garbage. This is in the ghetto fabulous North Area, the tourist attracting historical Downtown area is immaculate because they have people who go around cleaning up. Here, you're lucky if the garbage truck doesn't skip your block for more than two weeks in a row. My cousin's still make fun of me because of one time I walked most of the way home carrying an empty soda bottel until we passed a garbage can. I won't claim to never pollute but I avoid it. I'm always afraid Capt. Planet and Whoopi Goldberg will show up and beat me up.
I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

Re: America the Beautiful...
Smoking's probably what killed my dad. He smoked a lot and had trouble quitting. Eventually he got cancer, fought it for about 6 years, and died.
But, luckily, cigarettes themself seem pretty easy to break down. It's just the chemicals put in them that harm the enviroment."Those who want peace must prepare for war."

I smoke and drink.
