    pregant at 11.

I got this of another forum and wanted to see what you would think.

I can't find the full story, but I have it in a newspaper somewhere, so I'll scan/upload it later: http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2006220160,00.html

Basically, a girl who got pregnant at 11 claims that she can be a "good mum". In my opinion, that in itself is a contradiction. She has been a chain-smoker since the age of 9 and a half, and drinking since the age of 10, before getting pregnant at the age of 11 whilst drunk.

So now the social workers are threatening to take the child away - and quite right, too. If she's irresponsible enough to get pregnant at the age of 11, then she's not responsible enough to take care of a human life.

The 15-year-old father of course, is being charged with rape, since the court claims that the girl was too young to legally consent to sex. I disagree with that, since if she's "mature" enough to drink, smoke and get pregnant, then she's mature enough to consent.

So what are your views on this? Should the child be taken away, or should the girl be allowed to keep custody of her child, and landed with the responsibility just to see how good a mum she can actually be?

    What I think:
I beleive a child is a product of its own enviroment, If she is smoking and drinking and having sex, she obviously has no parental guidence...

Her child would probally turn out worse then her... And for those of you thinking parents would help, Look what happened too there original kid.

It's pretty ****ing obvious she's not going to be a good mother, but neither are millions of people and they don't get their kids taken away. In a free democracy everyone has the right to be as ****** a parent as they wish (until something like physical abuse or whatever happens)

Also what 15 year old is screwing drunk 11 year olds? daaaamn

I kinda meant for this to be serious...

Do you think she should keep the child or not? And why?

Put them in foster care and raise them as sisters.

Is she going to be fiancially supporting the child? No, therefore why should her parents have to pay because she decided to get knocked up? It should be up to them.

In my opinion everyone should be chemically sterilized from puberty until they've passed some parenting assessment tests or something. There's WAY too many people in the world popping out babies without even an idea of what it means to be responsible. And nobody's stopping them.

I don't like the whole idea that it's automatically rape if the girl is younger than the guy. I mean if he was 18 or something sure but he's just an idiot kid too so why is he held accountable while she isn't? It's one of the things I hate most about American laws. Teenagers are held as accountable as adults when they do something bad but it doesn't matter how many good things you don't you won't earn adult priviledges. Killed someone at the age of 14? Tried as an adult. Graduated from Harvard when you were 10? Nope, you still don't get to vote, son.
Is she going to be fiancially supporting the child? No, therefore why should her parents have to pay because she decided to get knocked up? It should be up to them.
Because they failed to raise and supervise her well enough to keep her from getting knocked up. At least they deserve to pay more than everybody else's parents which is what'll happen if the child becomes a ward of the state.

First of all, it's in Britain, so they aren't American laws.

Second of all, they have age limits on things for a reason. For every 10 year old that... graduated from Harvard as you put it, there are several million who obviously don't have the mental capability to vote. Why start making exceptions when the age is the easiest and most efficient way to do things? On top of that, who's going to decide which people get exempted from the laws? You? "Yeah this 10 year old looks pretty smart he can vote but not this one over here"

How about we stick with a system that is 99.9% functional and you can just tell your stereotypical nerd arguments to someone else

grr people that aren't as smart as me don't deserve to have children i am the model of a perfect human being

That's my point. Just like they shouldn't arbitrarily decide to treat a child as an adult because they've demonstrated high intelligence, they shouldn't treat a child as an adult for doing something wrong but they do that all the time. I wasn't saying they should let the 10 year old vote, just that if they're going to charge a minor as an adult for committing a crime they may as well do the opposite too. At least then it'd be consistent.

                        Re: pregant at 11.

The ideal solution here is to implant a birth control chip in all females and males at birth, and that way you have to stay on a "birth control" pill to be able to even BE pregnant. That's a maturity test in itself - if you can't take that pill every day, quite frankly, you don't deserve to have a child.

I think the best solution would be to have a 1984-esque "Big Brother" watch every single one of our movements and actions to make sure everyone stays in line. We could also be implanted with nanomachines that instantly fry our brains if we try to do anything out of the norm.

Frankly this would make life a lot more enjoyable as I hate variety

The girl and the boy are obviously both obscenely ignorant of life. This child needs to either be aborted, or taken in by a good family. There is no way in hell that 11 year old girl should think she can raise a child.

Otherwise, this can be a marker to learn from.

I think we've all missed one thing here:

That article is from the Sun, which I'm pretty sure is their equivalent to trashy tabloids like the Enquirer. I'm doubting the validity of that article.
