    Huge events/discoveries you'd like to see in your lifetime

    There are a few things I'd like to see before I die. These include:

    - Quantum Computers
    - Humans landing on Mars
    - Bigfoot discovered
    - Intelligence life on other planets discovered
    - Robots with more human-like capabilities
    - High fructose corn syrup outlawed
    - A non-white and/or female U.S. President
    - U.S. dependency on oil nullified
    - Peace in the Middle East

    I'd be interested in what other events/discoveries to which everyone is looking foward.

      - Cure for cancer*
      - Star Trek style food/drink replicators

      *It's a group of diseases, really, but even just finding a cure for one of the major types (lung, breast, prostate) would be fantastic.

          Pardon if my post is not very futuristic:

          ~~~
          I'd like to see some serious R&D (research and development) in the areas of education. I'd like to see the following *tested*:
          1. In my opinion, students get crammed a lot of information in the early years, and then later on they are... taught the same thing? For me, I remember how a few classes in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th were pretty similar. Then, in the university we get to start off what should be the basics all over again (fractions, anyone?). My understanding is that cramming a lot of information early on does not work, it is allegedly a solution to the very problem it is creating. Here is what I would like to see:
          *Less academic material and more social education in the early years. Why are some people bullies? Perhaps they have trouble at home.
          *Absolutely no homework in the early years. So many hours sitting down... only to do homework when you're out? WTF.
          2. More granularity in the ladders of education. Why do I have to take 5 months of classes only to understand some topics but flunk the whole thing? That's silly. I'd like to see courses of 2-to-4 weeks, depending on the topic.
          I have a few more ideas regarding education, but I guess I'll stop now.
              I guess if this was communism, that'd be okay.
                      -Nanabots.
                      -Cures for spinal and brain injures. (AKA: the people just shutting up and let the scientist work on it.)
                      -An American government that puts the everyday people first and not the politicians's businesses first.
                      -Colonization or terraforming of the Moon or a planet.
                      -More use of farming techniques that don't destroy the soil, the oceans, or human health.
                      -Organic computers (made by people).
                      -Space elevator.
                      -Greys or a flying saucer or the ghost of a dead relative.
                      I'd say an end to war, but I'm a realist.
