    bad games you play

There are some games, that even you acknowlege to yourself that they are for the most part crap, you still like them.

What I can think of at the moment:

    Breath of Fire V

THIS IS NOT A BAD GAME, I DO LIKE IT. I just can't pinpoint WHY though. Something that bugs me though is how it's meant to be played more than once.

    SaGa Frontier

Horrible design, clay fighter characters, non-existant storylines... maybe it's because of the battle system. It's strengely addictive. But super hard. Ever try fighting that Fire Phoenix??? WTF!!

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
When Tim Rogers isn't opening my eyes to the postmodernism of MGS2 or FF6's opera-ness he's an idiot. WHY does he constantly recommend things everyone else trashes for good reason? He advised his Insert Credit readers to import the Japanese 360 instead of buying the American one. Whoa, BRILLIANT, Tim. So I can play... uh, what exactly? Sure I'll import everything $20 cheaper but what Live? And he recommended this game, by Cavia, a developer he loves for some nebulous reason. Doesn't he realize he lives in a different universe (Japan) from the rest of us? Cavia seems to make the same basic shooter (Bullet Witch is the latest) over and over again, using various anime licenses, Zegapain being the most recent one.

GitS: SAC is clunky and awkward and bland to look at. The music, a major part of the anime, SUCKS. But it has the English dub actors from the Stand Alone Complex anime and it tells a story. Kind of. **** you, Cavia. **** you, Tim Rogers.

    Dragon Quest VIII
It's a 20 year old game. But I'm addicted to it. WTF.

Well if it makes you feel better, many companies do it, Nippon Ichi being one of the obvious.

        Oh man, where to begin...

I like a lot of bad games. Here are the ones I can think of right now:

I own and still play the NES Wrestlemania, Deadly Towers and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I also enjoy some terrible games for the Master System, such as F-16 Fighting Falcon and Ghost House (although I can't find my copy since we moved).

For the SNES I've got to go with Bart's Nightmare, which is an awful game, but I can usually beat it so I'll give it a try once in a while. I really like the first godzilla level.

The only other one I can think of is Stretch Panic for the PS2. Great concept, keen art style... lousy game. Although, I've never beaten the game. I should try again.

Kensei: Sacred Fist. It's an old PS1 3d fighting game with zero depth...

          ...but I love that game.

Not one I play any more, but I realized that I've played Dino City for the SNES for, like, YEARS.

It was pretty inventive, but still dumb as hell.

I'm also gonna have to say the Dragon Warrior/Quest games.

Since when are the Dragon Quest games bad games in general?

The old games don't really stand the test of time.

That's why they're making new ones.

MAGUS, Ghost in the Shell:SAC wasn't that bad. I got it expecting it to be pretty crappy but enjoyable because of the GitS license. It actually was just pretty decent, an average shooter with no HUGE glaring flaws and with some enjoyable fanservice (the story sort of made sense). I wouldn't say it is especially bad.

But the music though... the music

The music's atrocious. Really, there's no excuse.

But it's not even fun. And the objectives are not clear. Plus, wall jumping is near impossible thanks to the goofy controls. How come it was so easy in Super Mario 64? :P

Sewer Shark - For some reason I still love this game. You basically just memorize the directions at the start of each level, and blast the creatures on your way to the next level.
