I need a good sci book.

I'm running out sci books. Anyone got any good recommendation? I read all the Space Odysses, first books in the Rama and Dune series, I Robot, Battlefield Earth, Martian Chronicles, Do Androids Dream, and many of the classics.

Just skip The Urth of the New Sun. Blech.

Oh, and you didn't mention Foundation or any of the other Robot novels by Asmiov. They all tie together quite nicely.

Every critical review I've read says Urth is brilliant, Mora.

I Am Legend by Matheson is techinically science fiction, you should read it because it's very good.
"At first it just looked like a picture of a bunch of lily pads, but then I started scraping at it with my pocket knife and the whole painting just sort of spoke to me," Schmidt said. "For the first time, I finally understand what Monet was trying to get across in her work."

Is the Enders Game series part of "many of the classics"? If not, read Enders Game now.

Anything with Star Trek in the title.

Somebody here suggested China Mieville's Perdido Street Station on another thread. I read it afterwards and had a blast. I don't know that it would fit well into traditional sci-fi definitions but it definitely ranks high for the quality of writing and just bizarre setting.

I like David Brin's early stuff: Sundiver, Startide Rising and The Uplift War...the seond trilogy got a bit tiresome, but if you're interested there are excerpts here: http://www.davidbrin.com/upliftbooks.html

Caliban, Inferno and Utopia by I. Asimov were fun.
Neuromancer by William Gibson, was too.

A series called The Tales of the Wolves by Tara K. Harper. The first book is called Wolfwalker, and there are about eight in the series(or on the same world.) At first it does seem like a fantasy series, but it's actually kinda like Pern...but better.

Also try Cat Scratch Fever and Cataract by the same author. Both are kinda telepathy with animals kinda books.

Also, anything by Heinlen or Asimov, of course. But then those are the classics. Orson Scott Card is actually a very good Author, and I think this Alvin Wayman or something like that series is suppose to be good.

That's about it for me with sci-fi, I am more of a fantasy person.

                        Harlan Ellison.

I only really know short stories.

I loved I, Robot. I gave up on the Foundation. It bored me. Are the other Robot books worth while?

I'll look into your recommendations, thank you. Free imaginary 100 dollar bills for everyone.

I tend to like sci-fi that has a lot of science or social comment.

Asimov books usually bore me for the first 75-100 pages, then they are like crack.

Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" is sci-fi, but it has a ton of social commentary. I highly recommend it.

Also, the Dune series is pretty bad. I couldn't make it through the fourth book without getting so bored I wanted to tear my teeth out for fun. The first is fairly good, while the second and third start to lag a bit. The fourth is just downright terrible, and mostly because Frank Herbert tried to change up the narrative with these weird journal-like logs that took up half the book, and it was not at all interesting.

I'm not real big on sci-fi, so that's all I have to say.
