So yeah, Dray once mentioned a tactical RPG Maker-esque game he found for the Sega, and I figured out what it was, Sim RPG Maker. Looks fun. If only it was legally in English...*sigh*.

Re: Tactical RPG Maker.
ASCII had a lot of makers like Shooter maker (for SHMUPS) and Fighter Maker (for street fighter style fighters before the ps1 versions) but they were all pretty bad in comparison to RPG maker.
Sim RPG Maker wasn't all that great. There was a limit imposed on the size of tilesets, the way events and characters were controled was wonky (so making cinemas was difficult and they felt stiff), and the interface was pretty bad and not really friendly at all. I played a few okay games for it, but it's sadly more trouble than it's worth.

Re: Tactical RPG Maker.
These Maker games were before the ones we got, though, right? I have to wonder if they'd do any better with them by now.
Or wait, is Ascii even involved in RPGM anymore?"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

Re: Tactical RPG Maker.
ASCII actually cared about their fans because they were a small company; enterbrain is a business and they don't give a damn about anything but YEN. Originally, Don Miguel had recieved permission to translate rpgm200 (although he didn't expect it to be so popular and generate a huge pirated distribution thing) but when Enterbrain took over and released rpgm2003 they started cracking heads.
This is why rpgm2000 translation is considered "legal" and the rpgm2003 translation is "illegal." According to enterbrain, any modification of their files (even ones you legally PURCHASED and modify yourself) is a breach of their terms of service.
I own a copy of rpgm2003 but it's in Japanese because I hack it with a hex editor I could be captured by the Japanese militia
