    It's painfully slow.
"At first it just looked like a picture of a bunch of lily pads, but then I started scraping at it with my pocket knife and the whole painting just sort of spoke to me," Schmidt said. "For the first time, I finally understand what Monet was trying to get across in her work."

Sure it looks pretty lame now but think about the early prototype cars and planes compared to what we have just a few decades later and imagine the possibilities.

I was going to say, it doesn't look TOO much slower than I'd expect for an early mech. Think of how slow they move anyways in games like Mech Warrior or Front Mission without any sort of boosters.

it's slow, but i just love the fact that it's entirely possible to have something like it for real.

Also there's the fact they made it for $300,000 and think what the military or a major corporation could make with billions.

That is definitely cool (and a little creepy). But the other one was built to for a person to pilot so they couldn't do it that way. That one can carry 88 pounds but I imagine it'd be a job of work to make legs that articulate and balanced but strong enough to support the weight of a cockpit and person. When a group/organization with enough resources gets in the mix they'll probably end up combining ideas from several independent projects like these.

                      That's tight, but needs work.

I don't see how a mech would be any more useful than say a tank during combat. The mechs would just be too damned fragile.

The fact that the robot mule is walking and that giant, thing, is just on wheels makes it not really a prototype for anything.

                            Then again you never know...

                              Now THIS is walking.

That one's really cool too. It reminds more of silent hill though. those legs move a little TOO real.

Imagine walking alone in the dark, then hearing that noise and barely seeing that thing coming at you.
