I've not been posting much due to a huge work schedule, but anyway I thought I would tell you guys about what happened just this passed Thursday.
It started out as a nice, hot, sunny day. I left home from work around 8pm. I have an hour and twenty minute drive each way so I am used to a long ride.
It started raining a tiny bit, no big deal. It rains almost every day in Michigan. Or at the very least three times a week these days.
As I approached Clarkston MI, the sky at 8:30pm was as dark as midnight. I didn't think anything of it, it happens all the time for me. So, I kept on driving along I-75, the expressway that takes me home.
Minutes later, I noticed a cloud in front of me that was hanging down really low. I thought it was probably just a cluster of water or something (don't ask, I wasn't thinking hard about it).
By this time the rain was torrential. I had to drive 45mph or else I wouldn't be able to see where I was going.
The same said cloud, less than 50 feet away from me, was rotating by this time. I knew in the back of my mind that I should probably pull over. But I thought that it was just my imagination. I just decided to keep cruising along.
8:45pm, the rain and wind completely stopped and nothing but silence could be heard. I looked to my right, and seen the same "swirly" cloud rotating very fast. At this time I knew it was a tornado. But, there was no wind. I laughed to myself that if this is indeed a tornado, it was a very lame one. Not even a breeze! Since the rain and wind stopped, I floored it to be safe.
I had two decisions at this time. I could just get out of the car and take cover (and probably become one with the twister). Or, I could outrun it, because hey - there isn't even any wind. It can't be that bad, right? (Keep in mind its still less than 50 feet away from me at this time).
The tornado hadn't even touched the ground. Then, it did. And believe me; when that mofo touched the ground, all hell broke loose. I was still driving in my car, and I couldn't get out and put myself in harms way, I had to drive even faster!
Everything turned a bright white. Wind gusts like I've never experienced in my life. This thing was *probably* still very close or surrounding me. I didn't know for sure, because with the rain and wind, I couldn't see anything!
My car starts going out of control. It sounds like I am in an airplane hangar. My heart is about to pound out of my chest. I am so scared that my heart *seems* like it stopped a few seconds, I don't know. My heart begins hurting like hell from the intense beating. I seen an exit sign, and I do the best I can to turn into it. And I did. I barrelled down the exit, which turns out to be a rest stop. GREAT! Just what I need!!!
I run out of my car and take cover, and then the storm dies down again. I return to my journey home and make it home without a single scratch on my car.
Single most scariest event of my life so far.
