Popular VG series you just haven't gotten into...

    ...for whatever reason.

    For me, they would be:

Resident Evil: I played the first one, and thought it was merely OK. I'm not really the horror/survival game type, apparently.

Silent Hill: I only watched someone play part of the first game in this series, and it left me the same impression as Resident Evil.

Devil May Cry: I just never thought it looked interesting.

Gran Turismo: I don't like realistic driving in games. Probably why I like Mario Kart SO much more than this.

Warcraft: WoW looks like a life destroyer to me.

Kingdom Hearts: Some people here know my reasonings.

    Maybe more to come.

    VG series that we've tried?
Um...Star Wars is the only thing I can think of. If we included stuff I haven't tried, the list would be too big.

EDIT: Oh wait, you said "popular". The video games aren't popular to my knowlege.

Devil May Cry: I hated how it was supposed to be a total badass action game, but when I played it in the stores it was tedious key-fetching with one or two enemy spawn points. Also: generic badasses annoy me.

Resident Evil: I played a few hours of 2 and I am playing 4 right now, but I'm not seeing it as "the best game ever." Just an entertaining action game. Also, I think its "Boo!" scares are cheaper and more pedestrian than SH's.

Dark Cloud: I played 2 in a store demo and it bored me.

GTA: I guess because the graphics always looked marginal and the gangster atmosphere doesn't interest me. And I remember what it was before it turned 3D.

Wild ARMs: Lost in the shuffle of Japanese RPGs. Plus... not a fan of Westerns.

Star Ocean: It ****** me off that one of the few sci-fi RPGs there are starts off by stranding you on a typical fantasy world. Could they just not come up with ideas that could take advantage of outer space? Screw you, Enix.

Tales of Destiny: Aside from the fact every character but you battles automatically, what exactly makes this series appealing/different?

American RPGs as a whole: While Patryn endlessly lists off features that American RPGs have that Japanese ones don't, I just cannot get into American RPGs. First of all, the whole Dungeons & Dragons-type universes don't really grab my interest. I find them a little hokey. On top of that, most American game developers have butt for art direction. These things usually look fugly. (Look no further than poster child Oblivion to see characters that were beaten with an ugly stick.) The freedom and ACTUAL role-playing experience they give you seems cool, but the whole thing just comes off as bland in my eyes. And a time sink.

Gran Turismo: I don't lie in bed at night and fantasize about Mazdas.

Ratchet & Clank: First it was a platformer, now it's a shooting game. Neither appeals much to me.

Sly Cooper: Maybe if I was ten years old.

Dead or Alive: It's like Virtua Fighter's kissin' cousin. The slow one.

        Metal Gear Solid:
I just got tired of the "OMG I R SO BADASS" attitude, I went "Meh" and left the series. MGS1 was great, followed by 2. Played the original NES games, but stopped shortly after starting. Wasn't my thing.

        Resident Evil:
The first one was a horror game, the rest were just action games.
I never liked the others because they weren't "scary" enough or had the freaky/spooky atmosphere Silent Hill had. Those "OMG BOO!!1!" jump-scares get old very fast and is a poor attempt at creaping someone out.

        Final Fantasy:
I started and stopped at 7. The others were just "oh look, another FF. They still making these?!" thing.

        Kingdom Heart:
Disney and Jap. Anime mixed into one? No. NO. Just kill it. Kill it now. Nothing is sacred anymore.
        What's next? StarWars VS Gundam?

        Star Wars:
Loved the original trilogy. Couldn't care less about the games or other movies, except for Episode 3.
I'm a sucker for the Rogue Squadron series, though.

You may kill me for this, but..

        Armored Core:
I started from the beginning and stayed up till part 3, love the designs, just wished the gameplay would feature something new after each installment(not parts-wise) and not always the same stiff animation and weak sounds.
Give the cores some new abilities, blow off parts on enemies, damage them to make em slower, improved sounds which pack a punch, etc..
But I still haven't given up hope. Still looking forward to each new installment.

            Silent Hill-

I played the demo for the first one way back before it was released. I liked it but never acted upon the urge. I'm too lazy to bother now.

Most people want to repeatedly kick me in the testes for saying this, but, MGS. Just never dug the whole thing. Don't like stealth games, etc. Not my thing.

                ...Any sports series?

Although Super Tennis for the SNES was pretty cool. I wanted to play the tennis game on the Dreamcast, but never got around to it. It looked fun.

                ...Yay tennis.

Metal Gear series would probably be the heaviest hitter. I played some of MGS2 with my friend, and had fun doing it, but it just didn't sink its teeth into me. I did love that when I started shooting at the feet of a guard that had surrendered, he started dancing. A nice surprise that some designer was thinking along the same lines I do.

GTA series...again played my friend's GTA3, VC, and SA...had fun driving and mucking about in the city but when it comes to the actual storyline and shooting-type missions I'll take a pass.

Devil May Cry...I played the first and the story was mildly intriguing but not nearly good enough to make me want to screw around with learning a complex control scheme. I suppose if I could have just watched it, I might have.

I've never played or even watched someone play any Legend of Zelda or Metroid game. This isn't a point of honor for me. I just wasn't interested.

Resident Evil...the controls were so clunky for so long, and the camera angles were so irritating that I couldn't get into it. I hear later REs are better in these regards, but my interest hasn't waxed any.

The "cute" games...I don't know if it's fair to generalize here but games like Katamari Damacy, Parappa the Rapper, and so on. Their aesthetics just don't appeal to me.

First-Person Anything....shooters, rpgs, dungeon crawlers, whatever...with one caveat being the ability to zoom into 1st person when needed, but having a game locked in 1st person is a real turn-off for me. I suppose Halo would fall in here.

Just sticking to ones I've tried and not got into:

Castlevania: I've only tried a couple of old school versions and Dawn of Sorrow. It just gets boring quick and I'm doing it just to do it.

Sonic the Hedgehog: I suck at Sonic games and I'm constantly wanting to go back and get all the things I don't know how to get.

Tekken, Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, DBZ: The only fighting games I've ever really enjoyed are Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. Also Soul Blade but for some reason my love didn't carry over to the Calibur series.

All sports games: Aside from Hot Shots Golf I don't touch sports games.

All FPSs: I haven't tried one in a while but I never like them. I want Metroid Prime Hunters though.

Racing games: Midnight Club is the only racing series I like.

Don't worry ilikejazz I own the GCN version, and rented snake eater (GCN much more difficult than snake eater). but I never understood the love intrest in the series like most people on the pav do.

Oh yeah, Sonic the Hedgehog. I've played Adventure 2 Battle, Advance, and I own Mega Collection Plus. I've never beaten a Sonic game. I came close in Adventure 2, but wound up giving up. I only liked it for the speed courses, which I feel kinda works better from a behind-the-back view than the old 2D side view. The 2D games, while kinda fun, it's too easy to be going at high speeds and wind up missing something or running into something due to not-fast-enough reflexes. They get points for having large levels, though.
