The 10 Greatest Years For Gaming

Just found this article about the 10 best years for gaming, and I thought it was very interesting.

More than that, it made me realize that the greatest year of gaming ever had to have been 1998. Looking at their list of games that came out that year is like being hit over and over with AAA titles. I mean just look at the list:

    Metal Gear Solid
    Half-Life
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (not my cup of tea, but everyone else loves it)
    Starcraft
    Diablo
    Baldur's Gate
    Final Fantasy Tactics
    Shining Force III
    Silent Hill
    Resident Evil 2
    Panzer Dragoon Saga

I mean, that's just wrong. Seriously wrong that I never noticed how showered with riches we were that year.

So what do you people think was the greatest year for gaming?

    Updated!

This article has so many inaccuracies it's scary. Still, I suppose the question is valid.

I was always a fan of 97-98, but then I don't usually buy games brand new so I don't know when a lot of my favorites were made. Gotta love MGS, RE2 and Silent Hill, though. 1998 was a good year for my Playstation 1

          98-99 were my years, man.

I could've sworn SH was summer of 99, though...

          Diablo was also 96.

I think he meant Diablo II?

Edit: That was 2000, so nevermind.

For me the best years were the late 80's-late 90's.

Then I take back what I said. Gameradar sucks, then. Because they're the ones who list Diablo as being 1998, which is where I got that idea.

The whole SNES era for me. What a system with great games!

1998 was pretty damn awesome. Throw in the original Tenchu while you're at it.

The SNES era was pretty great. Too bad I missed out on most of it.

The best two years of gaming for me, though, was '97 and '98. That's when so many fun (for me) N64 games came out. Super Mario 64, Wave Race 64, Star Fox 64, Mario Kart 64, Tetrisphere, Blast Corps, Banjo-Kazooie, and finishing off with Ocarina of Time. And of course, there were a few Game Boy games I wound up getting during this time, along with the release of the Game Boy Color.

Although the best video game moment is easily when I got my NES with Super Mario Bros. But that was one moment.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."
